i just checked it and one of the selections had been changed which is odd since it ran fine for 2 days and I didn't change anything. Can it get changed when it goes through MSFT updates?

Possibly but if you re setup as no power savings options it should work fine again. Just watch whenever you have updates and recheck the settings.

well i think we have solved this problem or at least have identified the issue so that if it happens again I will know to check power settings.
now i need to open a new forum about recovering a 'athcfg11.dll' file on an xp machine since my network card won't install.
thanks for your help,
janice
