Not a problem - I will use a different programme

Download AVPTool from Here to your desktop

Run the programme you have just downloaded to your desktop (it will be randomly named )

First we will run a virus scan

Click the cog in the upper right
Posted Image


Select down to and including your main drive, once done select the Automatic scan tab and press Start Scan

Posted Image

Allow AVP to delete all infections found
Once it has finished select report tab (last tab)
Select Detected threats report from the left and press Save button
Save it to your desktop and attach to your next post


Now the Analysis

Rerun AVP and select the Manual Disinfection tab and press Start Gathering System Information

On completion click the link to locate the zip file to upload and attach to your next post

There is a little meanie listening out on one of your ports... We will now slay that and see what the result is

  • Re-run AVPTool
  • Select the Manual Disinfection tab and press Script execution

Were the words "begin" and "end" , as well as everything
in between, supposed to be copied and put in script box?
I hope so.

After reboot it is taking a while for kapersky to load. Waited 5 minutes for removal tool to be installed. I finally got the scan started aned will check on things again in the morning.

No threats were detected.

System seems to be running much better, with one difference:

When I reboot(restart), the PC hangs on "saving settings". I have to turn PC off and on via the button on the CPU.

That looks good now... What I will do is remove my tools and tidy up. Once that has completed could you let me know if the hang on shutdown persists

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean :thumbsup:

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

    :Commands
    [resethosts]
    [emptytemp]
    [CLEARALLRESTOREPOINTS]
    [Reboot]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Remove ComboFix
  • Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box
  • In the Run box, type in ComboFix /Uninstall
    (Notice the space between the "x" and "/")
    then click OK

  • Follow the prompts on the screen
  • A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

MANY THANKS--have a great holiday!

When I run the OTL custom log, I get an error message:
Cannot create file C\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\Hosts

I clicked ok, and OTL ran for 10 minutes with no icons, with message at bottom: RESETTING Hosts file..DO NOT INTERRUPT

After a while of nothing happening, I shut PC off manually and restarted. Everything came back up. Tried to run custom log again with same results.

I will go ahead and remove Combofix since we never got that to run.

No problem on the Host thing as it does sometimes hang just for the hell of it
