I have it packed up ready to be returned to the retailer!! My laptop was fine, it's only a year old, i'd usually have my mouse and speakers plugged in, nothing else, but since i connected that dongle, my laptop is very ill!!!
Just trying another factory reset and it's powered itself off again, fan is fine though!!
Do you think the Windows 7 repair disc will solve it?? I'm reluctant to buy Windows 7 installation disc, i'm of the impression that i've a unique code for installation disc so therefore i've technically bought that particular Windows 7 disc, just don't have the disc as i wasn't given it at time of purchase!! Seems a money racquet to me!!!

if you can get booted up to the repair disk then run chkdsk /r from the command prompt...should be the first course of action...

windows 7 has a built in option to create a repair disk and also to create a complete system image that you can put on either a second hard drive (external for a laptop) or dvd's

NOTE...anyone with windows 7 can burn you a repair disk
