OK reset the Firefox download location by following the steps here

You do not need the product key to remove Norton

IE8 should save to your downloads folder C:\users\your name\downloads

the website for norton removal tools says i need to have it for what i think is norton 2004/05.

f the product is currently not installed on your computer, check the Product Key at the back of the CD sleeve, or in the confirmation email that you received from Symantec for your download purchase. Once you write down the Product Key, go to STEP 3.
Your product key should have been saved in a text file in the following location:
C:/My Documents/Symantec/Norton Product Name_Key.txt
Locate this text file to be sure that you have your product key. You will need your product key later to reinstall your product.
If you do not have the text file or cannot locate it, you can find your product key on the CD sleeve that your product CD came in, or if you downloaded your product, in a confirmation email.
Once you have your product CD or installation file and the product key, continue with STEP 3 below.
If you cannot find your product key, CD or installation file, and you have Windows XP, then we suggest that you upgrade to the latest version of your product. .
