The chkdsk log does not include when run, but it was before this, I think

Error: (09/19/2012 06:07:26 PM) (Source: Ntfs) (User: )
Description: The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable.
Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume OS.

I again apologise for the interjection before, my error- not seeing the log for the chkdsk I missed the post requesting it.

rockmilk

I will leave the matter with your goodself, I would not place too much credence on the report of it being the drive that was tested - lettered C.

I followed post 11. I tried running the batch file (Win 7 viewer.bat), but the event viewer still seemed to have all of the old logs. I also tried running the other .bat file (cleanviewer.bat), but that doesn't seem to do anything either. I went in manually and deleted the Microsoft\Windows\Diagnostic Performance\Operational logs.

Results from running sfc /scannow:

http://www.filedropper.com/cbs

Also, since all of these changes, The Windows Action Center says there is no Antivirus (norton is running and says it is secure), Windows Firewall is off, and Windows defender is off. Trying to enable the firewall through the Action Center does nothing. Trying to turn on Windows Defender closes the Action Center and opens up Windows Explorer, pointing at the system32 directory. What's up with that?

Ok when you get a chance to please upload the sfc/scannow log as requested.

Edit:
Seems like we posted at the same time. :whistling:

Norton has a firewall so the windows firewall is not needed.
Windows defender is not needed we disabled that with autoruns.
As Far as norton uninstall it run the removal tool reboot and re-install it.

One thing that I would like to add is that if you do not have the required info to re-install your norton then please do not un-install it.You may want to re-open Autoruns and re-check the entry below and reboot as well.
+ "Comcast_McciTrayApp" "mcci+McciTrayApp" "Alcatel-Lucent" "c:\program files\comcast\pctrayapp.exe"

Re-enabling the item above should stop the error of your machine telling you .

there is no Antivirus

Although I highly dislike Norton I have helped out on forums for a bout 2 years and seen nothing but trouble come from norton avg and MSE However the choice to keep it is yours .

Don't worry, I made sure I could reinstall Norton before removing it!

I used to hate Norton, and was using AVG. Comcast allows using the Full Norton product for free, so I thought I would give it a try (AVG was starting to annoy me). So far, I don't hate it!

Is there anything else I need to upload?
The critical error 100 is still there.

Since you can re-install norton try removing it and running the removal tool and switching to Avast and see how the machine runs for a bit.

Another thing that you can do is run adware cleaner as admin run it hit the delete button
allow it to run and reboot your machine and post the log it creates.

In the eventviewer, looking at the summary of Administrative Events, there are no critical errors listed.

But, Looking at "Applications and Services Log\Microsoft\Windows\Diagnostics-Performance\Operational" Shows the critical event ID 100. Why is there this discrepency?

I will try running Avast and adware cleaner tomorrow - it is getting late! Thanks for the help.

Adware cleaner is quick.
Avast may be the solution Norton is not very good it maybe the cause of the issue.
