Lost Camera roll after update iso 6

so a few days ago, I noticed that my camera app was gone from my iPhone 4S. I was told to update to ISO 6 and maybe it will return. So I did but my iphone went into recovery mode it wanted me to connect to itunes. I did but it wasn't doing anything so it said to restore and I did. Well lo and behold I lost my camera roll. Yes, I am one of those foolish people that did not backup my pictures because it took so long (yeah I know lesson learned) so did I really lost 1600+ pictures? maybe there's a genuis out there that can rescue me? thanks

You might look through the advice in the thread linked below. On the off chance that the problem has to do with how memory is being managed I would not download anything to the phone until you've had a chance to try a sync to iTunes.
