Hello

I am new here so please excuse any etique miscues i may exhibit. I am very intellegent wiyh some things but not computers. there i am a moron. i am not sure exactly what i might have so i was afraid to try to remove it in case i used the wrong removal process for my particular problem. here's my story.

THE COMPUTER IS A 2007 DELL WITH THE MICROSOFT WINDOWS PROGRAM FROM THEN IT IS NOT A VISTA.

1. i did not knowingly download anything to get a virus but obviously must have. i avoid downloading anything at all for that reason so i can't tell you how i got it, sorry.

2. i have old firefox and new ie browsers. when i click on either one 19 times out of twenty it will not pull up the page in my lifetime. the little wheel in the top right corner keeps spinning the blue line goes to almost full but never gets there so i close it and try again untill it works.

3. one the page [yahoo] is nicely loaded if i type a url in the window it will take forever to do as #1 describes.

4. if i start at yahoo home page and enter a search in the top right window of firefox [google search] it will either lock up or do the search properly. good

5. now i scroll to the subject i desire, click on the blue description as always and then it ALWAYS redirects me to another search page typically. no [bleep] ads or other type of ads etc.

6. firefox pulls up the home page more often than ie.

7. do i have one problem or two and what EXACTLY are they and what are they called.

8. please help save a moron what removal program should i use?

10. is the program going to shut my computer down along with the instruction page and because i was too stupid to write the instructions down like they said i will forever be sol?

11. i i just acquired this proble 3 days ago however i hear a hard drive disc spinning noise that has been present for months i don' remember if it was always there is it normal or a separate virus etc?

12. since this has happened my microsoft security essentials house glows red and says it is off and wants me to redo it. i'm afraid it's a trick.

13. i have a 3 year old unupdated malbytes malware detection program.

thanks for any advice.

It works on XP. That wasn't exactly what I wanted you to do and it will take a bit longer but I can use the scan so let it finish and then copy and paste both logs (OTL and Extras) into a reply.

This is why you got infected:

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

This is a totally obsolete version of Java. Even the newer versions are vulnerable so you should just uninstall it.

Babylon is a minor nuisance. You have picked up a ZeroAccess rootkit infection which will take some work to get rid of.

Suggest you print out these instructions and cross them off as you go. Feel free to post each log as you get them. If a step won't work skip to the next one and tell me what happened.

This next step is critical so make sure you copy and paste the text inside the code box and then make sure you press the Run Fix button.

Copy the text in the code box by highlighting and Ctrl + c

ComboFix

:!: It must be saved to your desktop, do not run it from your browser:!:

:!: Disable your Antivirus software when downloading or running Combofix.

Download and Save this file -- to your Desktop -- from
http://download.blee...Bs/ComboFix.exe

Double click on ComboFix to start the program.

* :!: Important: Have no other programs running. Your Task Bar should be clear of any program entries including your Browser.

* A window may open with a series of Disclaimers. Accept the Disclaimers to start the fix.

A caution - Do not run Combofix more than once. Do not touch your mouse/keyboard until the scan has completed, as this may cause the process to stall or your computer to lock. The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs, please reboot to restore the desktop. Even when ComboFix appears to be doing nothing, look at your Drive light. If it is flashing, Combofix is still at work. It will probably take a lot longer than the 10 or 15 minutes promised at the beginning.

A file will be created at => C:\Combofix.txt or c\Combofix\combofix.txt. I'll need to see that in your reply.

Download TDSSKiller:
http://support.kaspe.../tdsskiller.exe
Save it to your desktop then run it.
Double click on TDSSKiller.exe and to start the program.

If TDSSKiller alerts you that the system needs to reboot, please consent.

Run TDSSKiller again but this time:
before you hit the Scan hit Change Parameters and check the two items under Additional Options. OK then Scan.
In this mode it is prone to false positives so do not change the SKIP option to DELETE unless it says TDSS.
When done, a log file should be created on your C: drive named "TDSSKiller.txt" please copy and paste the contents in your next reply.

hello should i remove java now?

how do i do this?

will this help anything?

what if i come across a site that requires javascript or is that ubcommon?

i have read that combofix should only be used by an expert like you and a lesser experienced person can cause porblems by doing it incorrectly?

is there a safer equally effective method?

how and when did i get this so i can avoid it again?

thanks

Uninstall Java then do the rest. We are the experts in using Combofix so please try to follow all of the instructions. Getting rid of Java will go a long way toward preventing this from coming back. When we finish I will give you some more steps to follow to prevent it.

HELLO THANKS

im assuming the virus will be removed from java even if java is turned off, in other words if i need to use java again for some particular reason will it reinfect my computer if i turn it back on?

do i need to remove ir from ie also since i use that browser too or just from firefox?

how should i expect each program to run, in other words if you say 1 hour and it is still running after 2 hours what should i do?

how long should i wait before i turn it off and go to sleep?

how much longer are you online in case i need more help during the process, in other words if you are leaving in an hour i might wait untill tomorrow so i can do it all in one day since it still sort of works.

my internet essentials is not working, no problem of getting another virus during the cleaning process without it?

would this virus affect my ability to save items from microsoft word to my computer?

how do i disable my 2010 malware and my possibly not wirking microisoft esentials?

what do you mean by "select application below will there be a window appearing that says this?

You can clear the Java cache:

Clear the Java Cache by following the instructions on
http://www.java.com/...lugin_cache.xml

Then uninstall Java and any virus left in the Java should be gone. If you later have to install Java then it will start with a fresh cache so should be as safe as Java ever is.

I'm going to be away from the computer for a few hours starting in 30 minutes. When you run Combofix it will say it should take 10 - 20 minutes to finish or something like that. That's a very old estimate based on the smaller hard drives that were around when it started. Unfortunately it has never been updated. I'd say allow 1 to 2 hours for it to finish and if the hard drive light is still flashing then let it run even longer.

IF we are lucky the OTL fix should get rid of most of Zero Access so at least do that.

If you are having problems with Word then close word and search for all normal.dot or normal.dotm files and rename them to anormal.dot or .dotm. Then open Word without a document.
