Hi,

Recently on my laptop, the internet, general browsing has become just really slow and sluggish it's horrible.

I would put a speedtest result here but browsing is so bad i can't even get on the webisite.
Geeksotogo itself took 5 minutes.

Thanks,
Bismillah

As we can see its very much on the slow side.. Typically its between 7 and 12

Here are some quick ways to stop most problems that may be slowing down your connection:

  • Ensure you're getting a clean test. Stop any ongoing downloads, and shut down any programs that may be using your connection, such as peer-to-peer software.
  • Simplify the picture. If you're using Wi-Fi to connect, try using a wired Ethernet connection to eliminate the possibility of wireless interference.
  • Reboot your modem and router. It's the stock advice, but it solves an astonishing number of problems.

After running those steps, you should now have enough evidence to contact your ISP if there's a mismatch between your plan and the speeds you're getting. See if they can run diagnostics on their end.

I just noticed that you're with Virgin Media same as me Bis and you must be on a 10mbps connection.

When I was on the same I used to get around 9.8mbps when running a test via Speedtest.

It sounds to me like the cable in your area needs renewing mate.

My daughter has the same issue with drop outs and slow speed because the cable in the footpath is knackered.

@Zep i've tried all that stuff and, still this is my download score.
Virgin media report no fault on their end.

@Wolfey, Virgin media are usually pretty reliable.
Im running Windows 7, 6GB RAM, Intel I5 Processor.
Its just the general browsing lag which is just a pain, it seems however if i go and run a game on steam, it works perfect.
