windows 7 validation failure - worked ok for 6 months.
Information says product key used to activate windows in your pc is already in use on another or has been blocked by MS. The laptop is an IBM T60 bought used (so already installed) but has worked fine till now. Is this enough info?

Hello Rob205,

Did you install Windows 7 with your serial first on a other computer where it works fine now? If yes, you have a license what works only on one computer.

You are also sure that you NOT used the license before and that it is legal.

You can chek your license with a free program, what you can download here. Can you pleas share the result (screenshot for example) here?

I will wait for you response.

Good luck,
Samballen

Go into System in Control Panel and tell us if the IBM or latterly, Lenovo branding is shown Rob.

This image is just an example.

I would hypothesise that the version of Windows 7 that you have on your machine is not the preinstalled one from IBM or Lenovo, as the company is now termed, by the simple fact that it is not branded as such in System.

This initially looks like a OEM System Builder license which installed on a given machine would be ok but not to any other machine.

Does the product key sticker still exist on the machine?

Yes the product key sticker states XP professional. Lenovo.
If it looks like I have a version of 7 that is not authorised would it be possible to revert to the original XP Professional? If so are there any links to help restore it please - I have no discs!?
Thanks for help.

This is the trouble with unscrupulous dealers selling second hand machines to unsuspecting customers which purport to be ok.

I doubt very much that the dealer was an authorised MS agent so you would get short shrift from him, he won't want to know in other words.

It sounds like the machine has the capability to run Windows 7 so you are faced with two choices, either go back to the dealer and demand a brand new OEM System Builder disk like this. Personally I wouldn't trust the guy at all.

http://www.amazon.co...r/dp/B004Q0T10A

If you are English then consider this link.

http://www.amazon.co...erating systems

Or buy your own.

There is no point in going back to Lenovo as all they will provide are Back to Factory disks which means that XP has to be installed on the system in the first place.

These disks will also cost as well.
