CD/RW drive doesnt work

I have a 24X Yamaha CD/R-RW drive and when i put a cd in it it says the disk in drive e: is not formatted. I tryed uninstalling the drive from add/remove hardware thing and rebooting and it says the exact same thing when reinstalled.

What is the exact type of media you are using?
don't leave anything out.
type what it says on the disk.

What do you mean by what type of media? Where do i check what type? the cd I was trying to play in the drive was warcraft III. No matter what kind of cd i put in it says its not formatted.
