It would have been too easy.  Says the remote connection failed.  I don't suppose there is any chance that the free teamviewer would install?

This implies a problem with the temp file permissions.

The file should normally be in a subfolder of

C:\Documents and Settings\Miriam Moody\local settings\temp\

copy the next 3 line:

set > \junk.txt

dir %temp% >> \junk.txt

notepad \junk.txt

then open a command prompt and paste or edit then paste and the copied lines should appear.  If notepad does not open, then hit Enter. Copy and paste the text from notepad into a reply.

OK.  When you get back on line.  Boot into Safe Mode with networking:

(Reboot and when you see the maker's logo, hear a beep or it talks about F8, start tapping the F8 key slowly.  Keep tapping until the Safe Mode Menu appears and choose Safe Mode with Networking.  Login as Administrator - there should be no password so just hit Enter if it asks you for one.  If you can't log in as Administrator then use your usual login.)

Right click on Start and select Explore.

Tools, Folder Options, View, then check:
Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
Press the Apply button and then the OK button

This may already have been done by OTL.

Now look for Documents and Settings in the left pane.  (Click on Folders if you don't have a left pane).

Under Documents and Settings should be Miriam Moody.  If you click on the + it should open and show you the subolders.  Find Local Settings and click on its + then click on Temp.  Right click on temp and select Properties.  Click on Security.  There should be three entries in Group or User Names box:

Administrator
Administrators
System

If you click on each you should see that Full Control is checked under Allow in the bottom pane.

You may have an Everyone since we have run Windows Repair All In One.  That's OK.  Make sure Everyone has Full Control.  Apply

If you do not have Everyone let's add it.  Click on Add then type in Everyone and click on Check Names  then OK.  Click on Everyone then check the Full Control Box under Allow and then Apply.  Now click on Advanced.

Click on Replace permission entries on all child objects....

Apply.

Close Explorer
Reboot into regular mode.

Try the teamviewer install again.

will not boot up in safe mode, I have tried all 3 options, safe mode with networking, command prompt and regular. It goes thru the motions but then comes back to the screen that gives the safe mode options, I see a brief flash of a blue screen with writing on it as it tries to start up in safe mode.

OK.  Going to upload two .reg files.  Safe.reg is the one to try first.  Right click on it and extract all then right click on safe.reg and Merge.  If it works without an error then try rebooting into Safe Mode.  If it still doesn't work then we try safe1.reg the same way.  I will have to upload them from my netbook so they will be in the next post.

Here is the other one.  The forum did not require me to zip them up so I skipped that step.  Just right click and Merge.

I think in XP there is an option on the safe mode menu now to tell it not to automatically reboot after a crash.  If you can get it to stop, write down the error number and read through the text.  Sometimes they tell you what caused the problem.

You can also try to run BlueScreenView:

http://www.nirsoft.n...escreenview.zip

Save it and right click and extract all.  It's just a .exe file.  It doesn't need to install.

Double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit, Select All.

Go File, Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.

I'm going to go on a trip tomorrow.  Have to get up at 6 to catch the ferry.  I may have Internet tomorrow night - depends on the hotel then we fly out of Seattle and get in to Orlando very late so expect delays.

I don't suppose you have an XP disk?
