Hello jsmitty, and welcome to G2G!

The reason for your problems is that you have not installed the motherboard/chipset drivers for that computer. Not only that, but your computer will run slower without the proper drivers installed. Right now, you are using the generic Windows 7 drivers that Microsoft supplies to enable you to get your computer running after installing Windows. You didn't say where you got the drivers you have, so I have provided a link to HP's driver download site Here; you must find the model number for the individual unit you have (it should be on a sticker somewhere, usually on the bottom or side), then find it on that list and download all the drivers and install them. Hope this helps.

Drivers should be instaled also in a certain order.

1- chipset drivers

2- lan drivers (wired and wi-fi)

3- video drivers

4- audio drivers

5- any other drivers that your machines may require
