When I go to run the free SuperantiSpyware program, it has a pop-up message saying "This program is blocked by group policy. For more information, contact your system administrator." And I can't uninstall the SuperantiSpyware now either.

Now all of a sudden my wireless printer is not working. It says the printer is not responding.

I tried Avast and a few other things online. But still feel something is not right. Still can't run the SuperantiSpyware program or print. Once in a while I even hear some sound, like music or talking for a moment like there is an ad running on the laptop, but there is not.

There was a troubleshooting area I came across when looking into the printer issue and saw a yellow triangle with an exclamation point on the printer icon and also the laptop icon, and it said, "There is a problem with the driver for Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter #2" and something about reinstalling it. When I click to fix it, it then has this message, "Problems found - Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter has a driver problem - not fixed. And - Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter #2 has a driver problem - not fixed."

Anyone have any suggestions on how to "cleanse" the laptop and get it back to normal? And also, I seem to get these problems often. Is there a really good program, even if you have to pay for it, that helps protect your computer from this stuff? Or that helps 100% when things do happen? It seems like the free SuperantiSpyware program I got as a free download only does so good, but does not help 100% of the problems that come up. It'd be nice if there was something that helps prevent the problems in the first place. Is anything like that available?

Minion%20Welcome.jpg

My name's Naathim and I'm a GeekU Minion! Now that we are mates and will be working together to clean your machine out of any junkware, feel free to call me Naat :)

Before we start please note the following:

icon_arrow.gif Analysis and research take some time, also sometimes real life gets in the way, please be patient.
icon_arrow.gif Limit your internet access to posting here, some infections just wait to steal typed-in passwords.
icon_arrow.gif Don't run any scripts or tools on your own, unsupervised usage may cause more harm than good.
icon_arrow.gif Paste the logs in your posts, attachments make my work harder and more complicated.
icon_arrow.gif Stay with me to the end, the absence of symtoms doesn't mean that your machine is fully operational.
icon_arrow.gif Note that we may live in totally different time zones, what may cause some delays between answers.

icon_idea.gif I can't foresee everything, so if anything unexpected happens, please stop and inform me!
icon_idea.gif There are no silly questions. Never be afraid to ask if in doubt!

Let's start and enjoy the fight! :)

See if you were able tu run the scan as outlined below:

FRST.gif Scan with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
There will be two versions to download: 32-bit and 64-bit. Please download the one that is designed for your system. If you don't know which one should it be, download both of them and try each other out. Only one will run - this is the right one. Please leave it and delete the other.

  • Right-click on FRST.gif icon and select RunAsAdmin.jpg Run as Administrator to start the tool.
    > XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File.
    > 8 users will be prompted about Windows SmartScreen protection - click More information and Run.
  • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Make sure that Addition option is checked.
  • Press Scan button and wait.
  • The tool will produce two logfiles on your desktop: FRST.txt and Addition.txt.

Please include their content in your next reply.

Thanks for your help. I worry I have made things worse. I did try a few free downloads online and someone told me that those often add more viruses and ask you to pay to get rid of stuff. That did happen with a few, they would scan, find problems, but say I had to pay to get rid of stuff. :(  I was wanting to do my taxes on the H&R Block website, but I'm now too worried to do that, if a virus might be able to steal our info?

Okay, I will go try to run the above thing  you mentioned and come back and let you know what happened. Do you think the problem is what is causing my wireless printer to not work? I am desperately needing to print things asap and I am not sure what is up with the printer not responding. ???

Thanks.

Until I will fully determine what is going on there, I advise you not to do anything with finance on this machine. Also do not run any other tools/scanners. Report back with the logfiles posted and let me investigate things.

Trying to download the 32 didn't work. So I tried the 64. That seemed to run, but what is popping up is a window that at the top says, "The tool is ready to use." And then below it, there is a search window. Then below the search window it has tabs from the left to right that say, Scan, Search Files, Search Registry, and Fix. Then below that it has a Whitelist that has "registry, services, drivers, processes all with check marks next to them, and internet with no check mark next to it. Then below all that it has Optional Scan and below that has List BCD, Drivers MD5, Shortcut txt, Additional txt, and 90 day files, and none of them have a check mark. They just have an empty little box next to them.

So, I am not sure what to do. Do I click on Scan?

OK, let's start fixing this. You have a very severe variant of ZeroAccess infection, so please consider the warning below.

warning.gif Backdoor warning!

Unfortunately your machine seems to be heavy compromised by a Backdoor Trojan. This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files. My advice for this moment:
  • Disconnect this machine from the internet.
  • Change your online passwords from a well-known clean computer (not this one!).
  • It would be also wise to inform financial institutions about your situation - see here.
  • Many experts believe that the best action should be reformat and reinstall, but I think that we can still be able to clean this one and return it to its normal funcionality (with no security guarantee afterwards, as this is a very severe type of infection).
    • If you plan to rather reinstall your system, let me know if I could provide any help during that procedure.
  • If you wish to omit the reinstallation, just please proceed with the next steps directed.
  • I believe that we can kill this nasty bad guy

  • Click File, Save As and type fixlist.txt as the File Name.
  • Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!
  • Right-click on FRST.gif icon and select RunAsAdmin.jpg Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • > XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File.
    > 8 users will be prompted about Windows SmartScreen protection - click More information and Run.
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.
  • Please include it in your reply.

Wow, that is scary stuff. Do you think a public library's computer would be a safe computer to go and change all passwords on? I could do that tomorrow. If a library is not considered a safe one, I'd have to ask around and see if any friends or family would let me go use their computer. That could take a few days to see who would be around for me to go visit and use their computer.

So, I wait until I've changed all passwords before I try the above fix, right?

I'll come reply here as soon as I can do that.

Also, is there any type of program, free or even one that has to be purchased that is considered really good at helping to stop these types of things from happening, or that is good at deleting them? All I have been using in the past is the SuperantiSpyware free download. And I usually would run it every few days. Is there something better you could recommend?

Thanks so much for all your help so far. I really appreciate it. On another laptop I have, that has some Groovorio virus that I heard is really bad. I can't even access in the internet on it anymore. So I am thinking it'd really be worth it, even having to pay for a good, secure program that helps detect things like that, or stop them, or get rid of them.

    Thanks!
