Ok I finally was able to run the Seatools program and the short test passed so I did a long test and it said: Error(s) Detected on NON Seagate Drive...... Next window said: ...... Unfortunately your Seagate Hard drive has failed an important diagnostic test, possibly caused by problem sectors which are difficult to read........ Then there were a lot of numbers listed.... PLease let me know if there is anything I can do otherwise I will just have to call it done I guess. Thank you so much for your patience!

Before replacing the HDD I would suggest that if at all possible you try a repair installation of the OS, you will need an OS disk for this though, do you have the product key number for Windows or can you borrow an OS disk that is the same as yours.

I believe I have a product key on the bottom of the laptop but no access to another disk.
It is a pity that you cannot borrow a Windows 7 disk because if the following suggestion does not work you are limited with your options I'm afraid
See if you are able to download a Windows 7 ISO direct from Microsoft by following their guide here you may get lucky but I suspect that Microsoft will tell you that you need to obtain the media from Gateway due to the original/present Windows 7 licence being the OEM type, if this does happen you can contact Gateway by selecting your country of origin here if Gateway can provide the disk/s for you they will most likely cost far less than if you purchased an actual Microsoft Windows 7 DVD.

Thank you so much for trying. I will continue to search for a disc or a way to get one. I am just happy I was able to recover all of my pictures at least.

Did you try the Microsoft download that I suggested, you can use a 4GB or above thumb drive for this and no need to burn to disk.
