Hi,
Can you open the Windows Update settings and change the option to Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them?
Apply the change, close the Windows Update configuration, open the configuration again to confirm that the option changed.

Yes, I did as you asked. When I opened it the 2nd time, the option had changed.

Run FRST64, click one time only on the Fix button and wait
After completion Notepad will open with a log called fixlog.txt also saved on the Desktop, please copy & paste the log to the topic.
After the fix wait for 10 minutes then Restart the computer, after that initiate a search for updates, is expectable that will take some time searching...

Checking for updates on Windows 7 takes a long time due to some changes done by Microsoft, specially on first scan that is what is happening in your case because we had to reset Windows Update.

Ok, Check the size of the c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder it should change during the check.

Will do. At 7:40 am, c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folderwas 2.38 GB, 5618 files, 116 folders. Will report on its size after a few hours.

Right click on svchost.exe and select Properties then click on the Threads tab, ignore the warning about Debug and post a screenshot of the window.
