Laptop Wont Recognise External DVD/CD Drive

It recognised it at first but now doesnt......think it has something to do with latest Windows updates.

 

Not sure my Device manager even detects it......at least I dont recognise the driver under the "Disk drives" menu or the "ATA/ATAPI controllers"

Help appreciated.

A "ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB" is a Seagate 1TB 2.5-Inch SATA III 5400 RPM Hard Drive

Can any other computer detect the external CD/DVD drive?

Tried my wifes but it didnt detect either but hers is not the best pc.

 

But had a look in disk-management.......is that it there on the bottom of the image?

 

How do I tell which one it is up top list?

Maybe an internal CD drive? Right-click in that "CD-ROM 0" square and select "Eject". If it's drawer-type CD drive it should open. If not, you may be able to hear it attempting to eject a disc. (Or insert a disc and then do the above again).

I dont have an internal CD disk drive on this laptop.......this was done when the external one was plugged in.....

Now all of a sudden its showing up........now there is a new problem......it wont show the data on the cd that is inserted when it used to before?

Same problem with several discs? If so, sounds like the drive itself may be having a problem. (Dirty/failing/etc.).

No, it plays other disks......ah......I see.......a certain set of disks that did play when I was ripping at beginning but now refuse to give up data...hmmmmm
