I tried both just now.  This one worked:

Download and Save then right click and Extract All, Extract.  Then right click on ImageUSB.exe and Run As Admin.  Select the USB then Write.

 

the other one didn't.  My USB was using MBR but it seemed to work OK. 

 

I started it from within Win 10.  Using the instructions here:

Settings, Update & Recovery, Recovery, Advanced Startup==> Restart Now then chose Use A Device and chose the USB option.  Worked as promised. 

 

After you escape from the program you need to remove the USB or it will reboot back into the test.

OK.  It usually tells you when it is running when it finds an error but it keeps running.

 

I found the latest Touchscreen driver but it is a bit tricky to get it to install.  Download and save sp99388.exe

When you open it it will eventually ask you Where to save it and it will suggest c:\swsetup\SP99388

change it to read

C:\Users\minij\Desktop\SP99388 then next

It will unpack the files to your desktop and then fail saying you don't have the correct operating system because the programmer used EQU instead of equal to or Greater than.  He wrote it for Win 10 version 1903 and we are now at 1909.

 

Go to your desktop and open the folder SP99388.  You will find a file called Install.cmd

Left click once on the file then Right click on the file and select EDIT.

 

It  will open in Notepad.

 

In the middle will be a section that looks like:

Change the 18262 to 18363 (2 places in bold)

and 19H1 to 19H2 one place.

Then Save the file (Strictly speaking we only need to change the second 18362 to 18363 but the guy who wrote this up did both so I let it stand)

 

Now right click on HPSetup.exe and Run As Admin.

 

This should give you the absolute latest version of the driver available anywhere.  Reboot if the install doesn't do it for you then wait about 5 minutes and run Process Explorer.  Wait a full minute and make a log as before.

Ok - should I run the memtest68 again and this time watch it? I did not know I was supposed to and I thought it would print a report.

Was hoping by putting on the desktop that we would avoid this problem.  Right click on Install.cmd and select Properties then Security.  Click on Edit.  Click on your login or Administrators and then on the Full Control box under Allow.  Apply.  Does that work?

Step 2 no longer works so just skip over it.

Okay - so I tried step 1, I'm already using the least restrictive.  Skipped 2.  Step 3 - I couldn't find it.  Step 4 I didn't touch the Basic Theme since it said it would not effect the Device Manager. Step 5 ad 6: I thought we updated that, BUT my HP assistant says there are 5 updates available on my PC:

HP Firmware Pack 

HP Recovery Manager

HP System Event Utility

HP PC Hardware Diagnostic

HP Wireless Button Driver 

 

I haven't done anything with these because we have been working on this issue. 

 

Step 7 - I don't know where to find System32 to check this, therefore I did not do Step 8. 

 

On a side note, my touchpad seems to be a bit jumpy and does not highlight.

Go ahead and let HP update what it wants.  Doesn't sound like they are important but you never know.

 

Search for

Device Manager

hit Enter.

 

Click the Arrow in front of Mice and Other Pointing Devices.

 

Find the Touchpad and right click and select Properties.  Click on Driver.

 

Rollback Driver.

System32 is a hidden file.  Look under This PC, C:, Windows, System32

 

Do you use the desktop or the metro interface?  Metro has the big squares with different programs running in each square.  If you use Metro, right click on any squares you don't need and Uninstall

Okay - Rollback Driver for Touchpad complete.  seems to be okay. 

 

Let HP update what it wanted to.  Done. 

 

I looked for the dwm.exe in the System 32 folder, didn't see it. So tried to run full scan as suggested.  My entire system froze.  I had to shut it down and restart.  And did not try the full scan again.  I did go through the Metro Interface and deleted what is not used.

hit Enter

 

Press the Start button in the new window that pops up.

 

When it finishes it should say your files have been verified as digitally signed or something like that.  If you don't get the popup then it should list any files that it doesn't like.  Tell me what it found or take a screen shot.

 

Also give me a screenshot of your desktop or what you see when it first boots up.

Download free home edition

Save the file then right click and Run As Admin.  Follow the prompts. Let it run for a minute (watch the Time Running indication at the bottom) then hit Analyze

Then when a new window appears hit Analyze again.   Once the report appears scroll down and see if it complains about anything.  You can Save the report but it saves as WhySoSlowOutput.htm which the forum won't let you attach.  Perhaps if you rename it to WhySoSlowOutput.txt or WhySoSlowOutput.jpg it will let you attach it.  If not take a screen shot of anything that looks relevant.
