Suppose I want to search for posts on GtG re how to get two side-by-side W10 displays? I assume clicking the Google tag initiates a Google search. Does clicking the gear icon limit the search to GtG forum?

If you click on Google you will get a drop down menu to choose from which lets you choose Forums instead of Google. You have to do this before hitting the magnifying glass icon to start your search.
If you click on the gear you get a form to fill out. Try it.
Search is not very smart. Does better with single words. You might do better with a Google search:
