In the search box is the text "Type here to search".

For a bit if fun I wondered if I could alter it to "Wotcha looking for eh"

A search of the registry yielded two locations where "Type here to search" can be seen.

So a quick tweak of the data and a restart brought up my desired result.

I continued working but noticed shortly after that the original search box text had reappeared - and I don't know why !!

Do you ???

Thanks for any pointers.

Cheers

It looks like this method will no longer stay affective unless the owner and permissions of the keys are changed afterwards.

It's also not uncommon for settings like these to sometimes get set back to default after a Windows Update.

Thanks TH for your suggestion.

I went to the site suggested and followed the directions.

I also added the two registry addresses that I had been using.

But one good restart sent me back to square one.

Ah well !!
