Trying to remove my computer name from being listed in Network drop-down.
All the NETDIS entries had Active=FALSE.
In ShieldsUp All Services, all ports were Green.
But with VPN enabled; only 1 block was green…
GRC Port Authority Report created on UTC: 2022-05-19 at 02:51:33 Results from scan of ports: 0-1055 5 Ports Open 1050 Ports Closed 1 Ports Stealth --------------------- 1056 Ports Tested Ports found to be OPEN were: 80, 443, 501, 502, 853 The port found to be STEALTH was: 0 Other than what is listed above, all ports are CLOSED. TruStealth: FAILED - NOT all tested ports were STEALTH, - NO unsolicited packets were received, - A PING REPLY (ICMP Echo) WAS RECEIVED.
When you use a VPN the VPN server is being tested by Shields Up since that is where it appears to originate not your PC Appears it has not been locked down as well as your PC.
Not sure why you want to hide your PC's name from itself.
My pc name didn't use to show up under Network before. And it actually doesn't show up when not connected to the same VPN I've used for many years.
I don't need to have it as an option to connect to via Network.
I want to be in control of this, especially because sometimes this kind of problem leads to my pc showing up on other devices in the house.
Now I'm noticing that my LAN connection icon frequently shows X and requires a restart to work again, even though WIFI works perfectly on android phone during this symptom.
The only relevant Event Viewer error I can find occurring during the same time period is:
"The browser has forced an election on network \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{B4A0C2D8-EFEA-43EA-94FB-4A82A5A3616A} because a master browser was stopped."
Could the error cause the LAN connection drop?
Unlikely. I think it's a symptom of the LAN dropping.
Try wiggling the cord and see if the connect light on the PC (near where the cable plugs in) goes out or flickers. If it's not the cable try shutting it down and reseating the card (if you have a separate card).
Try installing the latest version of the software:
Win7 and Server 2008 R2 Auto Installation Program
from:
https://www.realtek....xpress-software
Make sure the PC is not overheating.
If you are really worried about other PCs on your local network seeing your PC you might want to install a third party firewall such as Tiny Firewall:
Thanks. Onboard LAN light flickers green right now (working fine). It's never static, always flickering. I wiggled the cord, no change to light and no drop connection.
Installing Realtek software.
I already use COMODO, but how do I configure it to prevent other devices from seeing my PC?
Comodo should be set up by default but get on another computer on your network and see if it detects your PC.
So far the internet is stable. Thank You.
I don't have another computer. I have smart tvs, but they don't find my pc unless I enable media streaming.
