I desperately need help to develop and test/refine my bot for in-play horse racing. It is based around a professional betting software called Betting Assistant by a company called Gruss Software. The Gruss software 'scrapes' data from the Betfair Exchange betting website. My programme basically works by monitoring the progress of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd fav in the last seconds of the race. When certain pre-set conditions are met the bot places an automatic bet. The programme works very well (If I get any interested parties I will supply statistics) apart from two problems. 1. Only just over 22% of the auto bets get matched. 2. The programme freezes when I open or go to look at another page and a de-bug message appears.

 

The progammer who wrote the code is very defensive and just keeps saying 'it's not the bot's fault.' In other words it's not his fault even though a friend of mine who knows a little about VBA found a spelling mistake and various other anomalies with the macro's. Then last week Betfair Exchange retired the old API (Application Programming Interface) and the bot stopped working altogether! After exchanging heated emails with the programmer he agreed to do a teamviewer session. After about fives minutes of 'bumbling' along from one part of the code to another, he wrote back and said he found the problem. He just said 'the code was aimed in the wrong direction,' whatever that means? He would not go into details! It was at that point the alarm bells started to ring in my ears, as the latter mistake in the coding has been there since 19th July, which is the date the programmer delivered the 1st version. We are now on version 5!!

 

As one can imagine all of the above has cost me a considerable amount of money. I am in early retirement due to ill health and money is 'thin on the ground.' So, if I could find a person with the necessary skills to initially look over the programme I would be eternally grateful.

 

I have so far devoted thirty-seven months of my precious time (At my age every hour of the day and night in my case is precious) into developing my system and giving up is not an option!

Well, here I am again, nearly two years on from my last post.

 

Considerable development/change and progress has taken place; along with a lot of 'head banging' and extreme stress. I sacked my first developer a year ago after I found an experienced replacement. He is very good but constantly lets me down by promising an update by a certain time and then giving me excuse after excuse for non delivery. Therefore I am looking for a replacement who is experienced in VB, Excel, C#.NET and database integration. This is not a job offer but I would not expect any work carried out done free of charge. It is an opportunity to get involved in a really interesting project which has proved its potential but now needs to move to the next level.

 

At a conservative estimate, I have so far devoted over forty thousand hours to this project. So as one can imagine, I am very protective of my system, therefore any interested parties would have to agree to sign a NDA and accept they will be thoroughly vetted. They will also need to be good communicators.

hi i know your posts are quite old now , you got no replies unfortunately. actually i am in a very similar situation , i have been paying out to programmers since may 09 , i have spent over 80k so far and i will be 85 on march 11, my 2 developments are a sports arbitrage trading program and a genuine hedgebetting program , both of which i am about to scrap and start again ( have not closed them NOW is because i am waiting on the MLB to start again , end of march i think , if the baseball does not give me heaps of arbs as it should i will close both programs ) 

 

and i will start another 2 with only 10 sportsbooks in them , 6 x US , 3 x asian books plus betfair but this time what i will not do and what i will do is this, and it may help you as well,

i will not / never employ a sole trader programmer again , i will only employ a company or companies who have more than 10 programmers. i think that is the way to go , good luck in the future , don rees

Well here I am again. Just over five years since my original post. Progress has been slow to say the least but there has been some, as it is now a fully grown C# BOT which links direct to an API. After five developers, countless others wasting my time, I'm still   against a brick wall.

 

However, a few positives have come out of my endeavour's. Well OK, one and that is I can smell a 'rat' a mile off. Oh, and I have learnt to use Excel, turning into a right little 

 

I have scoured the internet for sites where developers offer their services but they are mostly full of non-goer's (And that's being polite) or demanding an amount I just don't have. Then this morning, I had a brain-wave and started looking at my list of forums. I came upon this little gem and where I found a rather helpful person who sadly passed away some years ago. That in turn reminded me of my advancing years and what would happen to my project if and when I kick the bucket? With that in mind, I have decided to look around for a developer to help me take my app to the stage where it will become a viable and profitable piece of software, in which they will get a share. In return they will receive a modest remuneration (To be jointly agreed) They will also need to sign an NDA agreement.

 

That's it in a nut-shell.

...C# developer with extensive .net/programming experience in the gaming industry. More specifically, for online in-play horse racing. My project is an online stand alone application. It is over eight years in the making but has come to a shuddering full-stop, due to various 'so called' programmers/rip-off merchants! If I can find a suitable person with the above pre-quisits, it may turn into a long term arrangement?

I have tried upwork and a one other and it is full of 'cowboys.' I even tried one from Scotland who reconed he had over twenty years of experience. But he ommitted to tel me he was still wearing nappies!
