Firefox v104.0.2. Has happened every day the past 3 days after I've had the browser on for about 2 hours.

 

I have to close Firefox, but it shows it is still running in Task Manager, so I have to manually end the process there. After that, when I try to re-start Firefox, it takes about a minute to appear, them the HD light stays on for about another minute.

Get to a CMD prompt and type:

 

taskkill /f /im firefox.exe

 

and press [Enter] to close all firefox windows.

 

Then type:

 

exit

 

and press [Enter] to close the CMD window.

Apparently I didn't phrase the question correctly to the answer I expected. The problem isn't as much closing the browser as it is why it's hanging. However, I cleared my history and deleted cookies of sites visited once or haven't in months. So far, so good. I'm keeping my pixels crossed.

If you start Firefox in Safe Mode then all extensions are disabled. To do this on Windows,

• get to a CMD prompt. Type:
  
  

  taskkill /f /im firefox.exe

  
  press [Enter] (which will slam all open Firefox windows shut), then close the CMD window.
   
• While holding down the [Shift] key, double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut.

Now test Firefox. If it is working now, it was probably one of your extensions causing a problem.

(To get back into Firefox with all of your extensions loaded, simply start it as you normally do).


In Firefox, press [Ctrl][Shift][A] to quickly get to "Manage Your Extensions".

The only extension I have is UBlock Origin and the only plug-in enabled is Widevine Content Decryption Module. I haven't had any known problems with these so far.

Got it. Software and/or hardware never change, so all should be great forever.

It seems to happen when I use the PRINT SCR key and open that in MS Paint.

1) Does it happen when you start Firefox without any extensions?

 

2) If so, try performing a Clean Boot. If everything is working fine now you can keep it this way or, you can add one Startup item and/or Service at a time until the problem crops up again. When it does you will have found your culprit.

I did try swapping out the current keyboard which is a HP with a Dell Quiet Key. The Dell didn't work at all.

How old is this computer?

 

Is it USB keyboard or an ancient PS/2?

I bough the computer as a refurb from a computer shop in 2012. It has Windows 7 as an OS. The keyboards are bothe PS/2.

Two questions:

• Does the keyboard work as it should in the BIOS?

   

   

  If so, we know the keyboard hardware is probably good.

   

   

   

• Does the keyboard work as it should in Windows 7's Safe Mode?

   

   

  If so, we know the problem must not be Windows 7.

How do I check the BIOS?

Depends on the make and model number of the computer.

I'm not sure since I bought it as a refurb. I think they just used the case to put new hardware into, so the # on the case wouldn't be any help.
