Hi,

I had some issues last year with malware, which this site kindly helped with. Since that was fixed some software that needs to connect to the internet stopped working, Reason 10 and Epic game launcher, but others like Steam or GOG work fine. I have tried reinstalling with no luck, could it be that the fix broke something else?

Regards

Ben

It sounds like Firewall blocking the internet access to those apps.

Hi, I don't have one.

Being that you have post on the Windows 10 forum it would suggest that you are running the said OS which in turn means that you do have a Firewall, you may have turned it off but 100% Windows Firewall is there.

How to give permission to Windows 10 Firewall example info here

What did not fix the problem.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Not sure where you were advised to turn off the Firewall but it was not a good idea to do so, the suggestion made by myself was that you give the Firewall permission to allow Reason 10 and the Epic games launcher to pass and connect, another guide here you want the Allow an app through the firewall details.

Running: Malwarebytes Service
Running: MaskVPN Service

The above two can cause connection problems as can having multiple browsers, all are secondary to your most pressing issue, you are close to losing not just Windows but also all of your personal data on both drives.

Partition 1
Partition ID: Disk #0, Partition #1
Disk Letter: C:
File System: NTFS
Volume Serial Number: A8FEBE9B
Size: 464 GB
Used Space: 450 GB (96%)
Free Space: 14.6 GB (4%)

Partition 0
Partition ID: Disk #1, Partition #0
Disk Letter: I:
File System: NTFS
Volume Serial Number: 6283BD59
Size: 931 GB
Used Space: 920 GB (98%)
Free Space: 11.5 GB (2%)

For Windows to be able to run efficiently and to be able to update you need to have between 20 and 25% of the partition or drive available on a HDD and an SSD between 10 and 15% as free storage space at all times, if you don`t you risk Windows becoming corrupt or not being able to update which puts you at risk of malware attack.

Data only storage devices should not be allowed to get any lower than 10% of free storage space of the full capacity of the drive/partition on the drive, this also to avoid data corruption.

Please note that storage devices can physically fail if the amount of free storage space is allowed to drop below the required 10 or 20/25% minimum.

Uninstall as many unused programs, games, videos and music files as you can and get yourself another means of backing up to, post back when you have between 20 and 25% free storage space on the C: drive/partition and we can go from there.

Ok, I have a Dropbox account I wasnt really making much use of, so i've been uploading a lot to free up some space, but it's so slow uploading that it's taking quite a bit more time thank I expected. I have I have 137GB on my C Drive now.

C: s ok for now then so what you could do for now is take the I: device offline and troubleshoot just the C: drive.

Did you turn the Windows Firewall back on and allow Reason 10 and the Epic games launcher to pass through the Firewall and connect to the corresponding servers.

I turned the firewall stright back on after after I tried both programs. Epic launcher is already set to work with the firewall, I found Reason and set that to pass through, but neither work still.

Neither have been done which means that your internet connection is getting sent all around the houses before it gets to any server
