I am still running Windows 7 and use a Brother MFC-8480DN printer/scanner. My system has both Brother's Paperport SE and ControlCenter3, possibly originally from a disc supplied with an earlier Brother printer, a CN420. The CC3 shows an option for using OCR, but it doesn't work with my older system; I get an error message to that effect. Brother has an OCR Update (which I tried using) but it didn't help and doesn't list my system in its list of requirements. Assuming that is correct, I would like to find a free basic OCR program that would allow me to convert text within a .pdf into something else like an .rtf file. I don't need lots of bells and whistles, just a basic program. Does anyone have any suggestions for one, or about getting my current program to work?

Thanks. I took a quick look and think one of them will work. Might take a few days before I download and try it, but I will try to report back.
