How do I find the best channel for the network the laptop is on?

I ran the inssider program and I'm seeing two channels...I'm attaching a screenshot, the network name is YouGotAnyCookies.
Do I need to change something?
The other computer in the house doesn't have wi-fi so I can't run the inssider on it.
I don't understand why this is a network error when it just started recently, we haven't made any changes to the router.

Looks like you are in an apartment building or somewhere with a lot of close neighbors who all have routers.  What usually happens if a close neighbor changes Internet providers and gets a new router which operates on a different channel which unfortunately is the same that you are using.  Since your other computer has an Ethernet cable you can temporarily move the laptop next to it and use its cable to connect to the laptop and see if that helps.  If it does then you really need to change channels.

There are two different bands used in WiFi these days.   The older 2.4 GHz band uses channels 1-11 and the newer 5 GHz band uses 36-165.  Speccy claimed you were using channel 11 but Inssider says you are now on channel 48 (along with blackhole-764100 which is almost as strong) .  I expect since both of your routers bands use the same name that the PC gets confused and sometimes connects to one and sometimes the other.  They really should have different names so you (and the PC) can tell them apart.

You definitely want to use the 5 GHz band as the 2,4 GHz band is too busy.  I would rename the 5GHz band to YougotanyCookies5 and  move it from channel 48 to channel 36.  Inssider doesn't show anything currently on 36.  (When you get to the channel assignment on your router it will probably be set to Auto.  You will need to change Auto to Manual before it will let you select a channel.).  Once you Save the changes and reboot the router you will need to tell the PC about the new preferred network.

If you have other devices that use only the 2.4 or if the router only lets you use one name I would move the 2.4  to either channel 4 or 8.

Changed the name on the router two different bands and put the 2.4 on wireless channel 8, seems to be working better.
I'll let you know if something changes. Anything else you would suggest fixing or working on?

Thank you for you help and time to fix this, I really appreciate it!

Yes works fine (speedtest.net)

Get almost as much as the desktop that's hardwired in.

Sounds good.

Time to clean up:
If we used FRST to clean your PC:

Right click on FRST.exe or FRST64.exe (whichever you used) and rename it to uninstall.exe.  Then right click on uninstall.exe and Run as Admin.

If we installed Speccy it needs to be uninstalled.  Same for Latency Monitor.  Process Explorer, VEW, AdwCleaner, JRT  and their logs and Speccy's log can just be deleted.

Also make sure you have the latest versions of any adobe.com products you use like Shockwave,  or Acrobat.  Flash is now the most malware targeted program so it must be kept up to date.  Flash is now officially obsolete and should be removed from all PCs.  Be careful with Adobe.  They are fond of offering optional downloads like yahoo or Ask toolbars or that worthless McAfee Security Scan (now renamed to Intel Security Scan).  Go slow and uncheck the optional stuff.

Whether you use adobe reader, acrobat or fox-it to read pdf files you need to disable Javascript in the program.  There is an exploit out there now that can use it to get on your PC.  For Adobe Reader:  Start, All Programs, Adobe Reader, Edit, Preferences, Click on Javascript in the left column and uncheck Enable Acrobat Javascript.  OK Close program.  It's the same for Foxit reader except you uncheck Enable Javascript Actions.

If you use Chrome/Firefox/Edge then get the Ublock Origin extension.  For IE (which you should no longer be using since it is no longer supported by Microsoft) go to adblockplus.org  and get the program.
If Chrome/Firefox is slow loading make sure it only has the current Java add-on.  Then download and run Speedy Fox.
http://www.crystalidea.com/speedyfox. Close Chrome/Firefox/Skpe. Hit Optimize.   You can run it any time that Chrome/Firefox seems slow starting..
(If it complains about Chrome still running you can stop it with Task Manager or go into Chrome then go to:

chrome://settings/

Hit Advanced at the bottom of the page then scroll down to near the bottom where it says System.

Change
Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed
to Off (slide the blue thing to the left and it turns brown)
Close Chrome.

If the browser is still slow then go in and disable all of your extensions, close the browser and Optimize with SpeedyFox then restart the browser.  If that helps then one or more of your extensions is at fault.  Go back in and turn them on one at a time and see if you can figure out which ones slow things down the most.

If you are a Facebook user get the FB Purity extension for your browser:
This will stop all of the suggested pages and ads so that Facebook loads much quicker.

Thank you!

I've done all this and now I'll just test it out for a bit and see if it keeps working.

All looks good for now on how it's operating.

Im noticing a delay when going to a website now.

It's like i go to a website (geekstogo.com) it brings up an "error page can't be loaded"

But reloads itself and eventually goes to the website.

Feels like something is hogging up the CPU.

Do you get the same delay if you plug the laptop in to the cable the other PC uses?  Might get better results with the 5 GHz band but you would need to change the channel.

Let's see if anything is hogging the CPU.

Get Process Explorer

Save it to your desktop then run it (Vista or Win7+ - right click and Run As Administrator).
View and check Show Processes From All Users

View, Select Column, check Verified Signer, OK
Options, Verify Image Signatures

Click twice on the CPU column header  to sort things by CPU usage with the big hitters at the top.

Wait a full minute then:

File, Save As, Save.  Note the file name.   Open the file  on your desktop and copy and paste the text to a reply.

I did just now try to plug the cable from the router into the laptop, and it doesn't seem to be doing it. Webpages seem to load much quicker with no error messages.

I'd try moving the channel to 36 on the 5GHz band and then use it.  See if that helps.  The 2.4 band is just really busy.

Moving the laptop to 5GHz seemed to have corrected the problem with loading the the websites.

I think you have completely fixed this laptop my Friend..

That's why i came to the best website (geektogo.com) because you all know what you're talking about!

Have only heard good things from this website and i WILL be back.

I can check back in a few days for a overall progress report.
