If you would rather keep it, it's fine especially if it's new and you paid for it. If you keep it, do not download AVG because 2 anti-virus programs will just cause trouble.

However, it doesn't do any good to have an anti-virus program if you don't keep it updated and run it. ;)

So, go ahead and get Service Pack 2. Then run a full system scan with Norton, then post a HiJackThis log for me and I will give you my recommendations to help prevent this. :tazz:

However, you still need Service Pack 2. You still just have Service Pack 1.

But, your system is clean for now. So here are my recommendations to help prevent this. You NEED service pack 2.

Congratulations your log is clean! Great job on the clean up :tazz:

I recommend checking the http://www.microsoft.com website periodically for critical updates to install.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Ewido Security Suite <= Protection against Trojans, Worms, Dialers, Hijackers, Spyware, and Keyloggers.

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed. Just install it, open it, update it, then click "enable all protection" and that's it - you won't even know it's there ;)
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
Other necessary Programs: *NOTE* If you decide to use one of these firewalls and get Service Pack 2, you will need to disable the Windows Firewall.

After downloading the updates did you reboot your computer before posting the HiJackThis log? If not, then you may have it and it wasn't showing yet. ;) If you have not rebooted your computer go ahead and do so then post a HiJackThis log and I'll see if you do have service pack 2. :tazz:
