:D

I thought I posted something about this earlier, but it didn't show up.

Anyway, my Verizon DSL doesn't work anymore and I can't figure out what happened. I recently installed McAffee (or whatever it is called) firewall software. It seemed to mess up my computer, so I uninstalled that and then intalled Norton Internet Security 2004. It works great.

But, about a week afterward, my DSL stopped working. I am stuck on my AOL dialup, and I don't know what to do. The Verizon tech support guys said my modem did not work, and sent me a new one. I installed it, DSL still not working. All I get is a THIS PAGE CAN NOT BE DISPLAYED error.

I have no idea what is going on. <_< Every few minutes the lights on the DSL act as if I just turned the modem on and off. The USB light and the DSL light go off, then the USB light comes back on. The DSL light begins flashing, than faster, and then finally goes to a solid green.

Can you PLEASE help me? :D

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

Yes.

Please Download LSPFix from http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm and Run the Program. Disconnect from the Internet and close all Internet Explorer Windows. Check the "I know what I'm doing" Button and remove all traces of alclsp.dll. Reboot.

Download Ad-aware from: http://www.geekstogo...n=download&id=5

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the main window, look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Next, we need to configure Ad-aware for a full scan.

-> Click on the Gear icon (second from the left) to access the preferences/settings window

1. In the General window make sure the following are selected:
  • Automatically save log-file
  • Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
  • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
2. Click on the Scanning button on the left and select :
  • Scan Within Archives
  • Scan Active Processes
  • Scan Registry
  • Deep Scan Registry
  • Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
  • Scan my Hosts file
  • Under Click here to select drives + folders, choose:
  • All of your hard drives
-> Click on the Advanced button on the left and select:
  • Include additional process information
  • Include additional file information
  • Include environment information
  • Include additional object details
-> Click the Tweak button and select:
  • Under the Scanning Engine:
    • Unload recognized processes during scanning
    • Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
    • Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
  • Under the Cleaning Engine:
    • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
-> Click on Proceed to save the settings.

-> Click Start and on the next screen choose Activate in-depth Scan at the bottom of the page and then choose:
  • Use Custom Scanning Options
-> Click Next and Ad-aware will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected.

-> Save the log file when it asks and then click Finish

-> When finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next).

<_< Sorry about this, I just found out, it was because my phone jack may be a little messed-up. It is no software problem, but I am still removing that spyware.

By the way, Norton Internet Security said dpwsock.dll was a trojan, but I looked up the file online, I read it came with Windows. Is dpwsock.dll the trojan.adwaheck Trojan or is it just that Norton Internet Security is wacko?

If the DSL light on your modem of blinking then there is either something wrong with the phone jack or you got another bad modem. I might add that it is very rare to get two modems that are bad. If your not sure about the phone jack you might want to call your local Analog repair to have a line test ran.
