Hi again!

Ok, let's get started then. This will likely be few step process.
You really have a impressive collection there..

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, as you can't read them during the fix.

Turn off SpyBot S&D's teatimer as it can get in the way of the fixes.

First, download;

- Ad-Aware SE Personal

- Clean Up

Run the CleanUp installer & and get it ready to be used, but please don't run the program yet.

- Spybot S&D

=> An tutorial for SpyBot
=> An tutorial for Ad-aware

Please run the programs as instructed. ;)

Please run at least three of these free online scans here;
- Trend Micro
- BitDefender
- RAV
- Kaspersky
- Jotti Virusscan
- F-secure

Then run at least one of the following anti-trojan software;

- A2 <-- Free Trojan scanner

- Trojan Hunter <- 30 days free trial.

Please boot up into Safe Mode. Disconnect from the internet {for broadband/cable users, it is recommended to disconnect the cable connection}

While rebooting, tap F8 until your computer shows an menu. Select Safe Mode.

Once your windows has loaded,

go to "Start => Control Panel => Add/Remove Programs", and uninstall the following entries if present;
BearShare (This P2P - program is not clean. Uninstall it during the fix, and I'll give you an link where you can get a better information about clean file-sharing programs.)
Wintools
MediaPass
ISTsvc
Internet Optimizer
UStorSrv

Now do this;

Click Start => Run => and type in;

services.msc

Click "OK".

In the services window find service; WinTools for IE service (WinToolsSvc)

Right-click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then "Ok". Exit the Services utility.

Then repeat this step for services; Winkkj - Unknown owner, WebSeach Toolbar support NT service (TBPSSvc) & UStorage Server Service

Once you have disabled those services;

Run HiJackThis;

1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
2. Click "Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following;

C:\Program Files\Internet Optimizer\optimize.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\iphini.exe
C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\istsvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\initedit.exe
C:\WINDOWS\cqatw.exe
C:\Program Files\Media Pass\MediaPass.exe
C:\Program Files\Media Pass\MediaPassK.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\UStorSrv.exe
C:\Program Files\Cywzckt\Ugrlqz.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

Launch HJT, run a scan, and check these objects for removal;

Hi again!

Ok, this looks quite better than earlier.
Still few things we need to do..

Also, did you uninstall BearShare from your PC as I asked you to do in the earlier fix? As I said, I'll be happy to give you an link to better information, when your PC is clean, about which P2P - programs are clean. And BearShare is not one of those.

Let's start.

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, as you can't read them during the fix.

First, disable SpyBot S&D's protection if you have it enabled. This is because it might come in the way of our fixes.

Once you have done that,

please boot up into Safe Mode. Disconnect from the internet {for broadband/cable users, it is recommended to disconnect the cable connection}

While rebooting, tap F8 until your computer shows an menu. Select Safe Mode.

Run HiJackThis;

1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
2. Click "Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following;

C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPS.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\PIB.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPSSvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\WKGy7e4Y.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

Now do this;

Click Start => Run => and type in;

services.msc

Click "OK".

In the services window find service; WebSeach Toolbar support NT service (TBPSSvc)

Right-click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then "Ok". Exit the Services utility.

Launch HJT, run a scan, and check these objects for removal;

O23 - Service: WebSeach Toolbar support NT service (TBPSSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPSSvc.exe

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following folders and delete if present;

C:\Program Files\BearShare\ <= Entire Folder
C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\ <= Entire Folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32\temp532.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\initedit.exe

Again, run CleanUp! Be sure to reboot when prompted. Once your Windows has loaded, run a new scan with HJT then once it's finished, connect back to the internet so that you can post your fresh logfile.

Hello,

In the first set of instructions you gave me i looked for Bearshare in the Add/remove programs list and it wasnt there, however it was present in the C:program files, so i deleted it from there. I dont need another link to a P2P program as i have another one.

As for this new set of instructions, the things you told me to remove from the HJT process manager section were not present. Also none of the files/folders in windows explorer were present either. I have a new HJT log which is below, but some of the things you told me to remove have appeared again, is this due to spybot? You told me to disable spybot but i dont know how to, i keep getting little spybot messages, so i right click on the spybot thing on the toolbar and exit from it (i assumed this was what you meant when you said disable spybot)

Hi again! This log looks a little better. We're getting there. ;)

Also, I now need to know what is your other P2P - program you're using? Because it might not be clean one, in which case you should get rid of it also.

Let's continue. It may be easier if you print these instructions out too, though you will have access to internet during the fix.

Let's try little different approach then.. Well first of, we need to disable TeaTimer;

to disable TeaTimer.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.
Once you have done that,

close all open windows and/or open browsers, making sure that only HJT is running. Run a scan with it, and check these objects for removal;

Hi again! You're log is now malware free.

If you are suffering any other problems, please let me know. Also if you have any symptoms of the problems you posted about, please let me know.

Congratulations. ;)

Here's some tips for future to prevent spyware;

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox.
Also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? & Spyware Aid's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.

thanks a lot :tazz:

One more thing, should i turn back on the teatimer on spybot and currently A squared is running and alerting me to things trying to connect to the internet, should i keep this on as well?

One final thing, most of the popups which were appearing were using internet explorer, should i completely remove IE from my computer to stop this? If so how do i do it, it isnt in the add/remove program list?

Well, TeaTimer is quite good tool, so just turn it back on. ;)

For A2, it's quite recommended also and as extra protection isn't bad, it's up to you if you want to keep it. I'd say keep it.

No, don't uninstall/remove IE. You will need it to get your windows updates and things like that.

If you want to get better browser, just go here; http://www.mozilla.org/
and download Firefox! Set it as your default browser and use it, things are fine then. ;)

Good luck and safe surfing!
