hello all,
THe following is my hijak this log. I just installed XP and went on the net to get some updates when I got a bunch of hijuacking programs after talking to some friendly people in the live chat I dloaded ewido and got rid of most of them however my norton is not letting me do any updates and my task manager stoped working shortly but thanks to canoekidd I got it back in effect. but my Norton is still not working properly. any information, tips advice ect is greatly appreciated!!! thanks for reading and thanks in advace. :tazz:

You have some pretty bad infections, but before I can help you I need you to upgrade to Service Pack 1a. Otherwise, it is likely you will be re-infected faster than we can clean you. Visit http://www.microsoft...&DisplayLang=en and download and install the Service Pack.

SP2 NOTE: Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) has terrific security features, and we highly recommend everyone install it, however it should not be installed until your system is free from malware. Installing SP2 with malware present can cause many compatibility problems, or even prevent your computer from restarting. If your system has a malware infection, or if you're unsure, use the SP1a download link above.

Once you have installed Service Pack 1a post a new HijackThis log in a reply to this topic.

I see you have SP2 already....I guess it didn't cause any problems though. Did you get it from that link? I thought it should've just installed SP1a.

Please print out this post so that you have a hard copy of these instructions. You will need to keep Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer (including My Computer) closed once you start the removal process in Safe mode or the infection will regenerate.

Please download Intermute's CWShredder from here:
http://cwshredder.ne.../CWShredder.exe
Save it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Then please download About:Buster from here:
http://www.malwareby...boutBuster5.zip
Unzip it to the desktop, run it, Check for Updates, and update the files, but do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download: DelDomains.inf and save it to the desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:

Go to "Start" > "Run" > and type services.msc and click "OK".
Double-click Network Security Service, click "Stop" and change the Startup type to "Disabled".
Click "OK".

Please run CWShredder, and click Fix.

* Browse to where you saved AboutBuster and run AboutBuster.exe.
* Click "Begin Removal" and let it scan.
* When it has finished, click "OK" and then "Exit". It will save a log to the directory you put it in called "Ab Logfile.txt". I will ask for this log later.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the log from the scan for me.

Download smitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Make sure you still have Ewido and DelDomains.inf.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't scan with it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Please run HijackThis, do a scan, and place a check next to the following items to be fixed. Unless you know the item in blue check it also:

Close all browsers and windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked".

Delete the following files in bold:
C:\WINNT\svchost.exe <-- Only delete it in the WINNT folder!
C:\WINNT\iyirp.exe

Delete the following folders in bold. Unless you know the folder in blue delete it also:
C:\Program Files\ISTsvc\
C:\Program Files\ewio\

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.


Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.


Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Right-click DelDomains.inf and select: Install

Reboot back into normal mode and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of the smitfiles.txt log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.

Hello again,
I have fixed a lot of problems using the methods you have suggested. I cant say thanks enough. here are the Logs Please let me know if there is something that I missed. For some reason or another I am still not able to run Norton system worx. I can see the hourglass however it never actually runs. any suggestions? I already uninstalled and then reinstalled but I still have the same problem. :tazz:

I'm not sure...I'll try to find out something...
Your HijackThis log isn't from Safe mode is it? Your list of running processes seems too short.

Go to "Start" > "Run" and type services.msc and click "OK".
Double-click svchost.exe, click "Stop" and change the Startup type to "Disabled".
Click "OK".

Run HijackThis.
From the scanning screen, click "Config".
Open the "Misc Tools" section.
Click "Delete an NT service."
Enter the following:
moto
Click "OK."

Reboot. Make sure you are in normal mode...Run HijackThis and post a new log in a reply to this topic.
