Hello,

I have run Ad-Aware and Spybot 1.3, my daughters computer had P-Cillin but is now running Norton Antivirus. Unfortunately she never downloaded most if any of the critical Windows updates...my bad. I think I got rid of badurl.grandstreet but still cannot get onto internet because of this 404ads.net:8000/redirect.....etc.

I ran HJT and the following is the log.

Thanks for any help you might give me as to changes I should make to this log. <_<

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.

http://www.microsoft...p1/default.mspx
Apply the update, reboot, and go here to this link and apply all critical windows updates except service pack 2.
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
Spyware and viruses interfere with the installation of service pack 2 and you will have another world of problems if this is installled before we remove the spyware.
Post new log.

Thanks Jonny,
The only problem is my daughters computer cannot access the net and I tried to go to the Microsoft Download site as you suggested thinking maybe I could download the XP sp1a to a CD but since my computer has SP2 I cannot seem to get SP1a unless I order a disc which will take 2 to 4 weeks. Is there anyway I can get a SP1a onto my daughters computer. The automatic windows upgrades used to be on her computer but due to other problems also connected with her internet usage (badurl.grandstreet) I chose to format her hard drive and use the system restore discs a few weeks back which in hindsight may not have been that bright.

Any suggestions?
Thanks again for your help

The only problem is my daughters computer cannot access the net and I tried to go to the Microsoft Download site as you suggested thinking maybe I could download the XP sp1a to a CD but since my computer has SP2 I cannot seem to get SP1a unless I order a disc which will take 2 to 4 weeks. Is there anyway I can get a SP1a onto my daughters computer.

Gotta get em back online first... :D

I removed Weatherbug program, still have same problem with 404ads redirect. I cannot get my daughter's laptop to run the scans suggested. Any ideas what to do next. Also I ran CWShredder yesterday before I sent my initial HJT log and it did find one CoolWebSearcher which it shredded.

Thanks,
Bob

Ran the WinsockXpfix. Still have the same problem.....404ads....in Address line on IE.

Think I might just format HD and start over.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Please reboot into safe mode - How do I boot into "Safe" mode?.
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):
C:\WINDOWS\Cyucygng.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\winb2s32.dll
C:\PROGRAM FILES\POWERS... <- this folder (name abbreviated)

C:\WINDOWS\System32\kbdcr.exe

Reboot your PC.

To remove spydeleter O9 entries: Open notepad, and copy and paste the contents of the quote box below into a new text file.

Save it as file name: "fixme.reg" (not including the quotes). Save as file type: *All files* and save it on your Desktop.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{FB74C951-ACA1-4e33-A94C-A9261EB2CCB7}]

Then, locate fixme.reg on your desktop and double-click it.
You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".
Answer 'Yes' and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

You can delete fixme.reg when finished.

If you would please, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log in this same topic, and let us know how your system's working. <_<

Dear Geeks to Go,

I have been following this string and am having the same problems accessing my Internet Explorer on one of my computers. I had the badurl.grandstreet.com problem. Used AdAware, Spybot, Spysweeper, Stinger and a couple of other scans to try and remove as much crud as possible. I have tried WinsockXpfix as well with no luck.

Below is my HijackThis log. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Geeks to Go ChasG!

My suggestion is to click the Hijack This Guide in my signature and download the latest version of hijack this. Next post your log in your own topic you create in the Hijack This Logs subforum. To locate this just go to the main forum room and right underneath the "Spyware and Viruses" forum you'll see the hijack this logs. Start your new topic with all the details on your problem and post the log. It gets very confusing when multiple users post their problems in the same topic. <_<
