Greetings!

I am new to this, so hopefully I post correctly.

Yesterday I received the following (and maybe more) trojan horses:

Downloader.Agent.OT
Downloader.Agent.OS
Generic.IV
Startpage.19.AO

I went to your help page, and ran the following:
Cleanup, Ad-aware, CWShredder, Spybot, AVG (which couldn't heal the viruses)

My operating system is Windows XP Professional, with SP2

The HijackTHis log is:

Welcome to GTG.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Download AboutBuster http://www.greyknigh...AboutBuster.zip and unzip the files to a folder on your Desktop. Run AboutBuster and click OK. Click Update button to see if there are any updates. Close the program now.

Download cwsserviceremove http://www.greyknigh...rviceremove.zip and unzip it to your desktop. Don't run it yet.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Run AboutBuster and click Begin Removal button. Once that's done, just hit the OK button. Click Exit once you are done. Click the OK button and it should exit. Open up the 'Ab LogFile.txt' (which was created in the same folder as AboutBuster) and post the log here.

Delete the following Files/Folders (delete folders if no filename is specified) according to their directory (if none, just do a search for them) and delete them if they exist:

C:\WINDOWS\javapn32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\wingl.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysaj.dll

C:\WINDOWS\sysik32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\crxw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaln32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntyx32.exe

Run cwsserviceremove.reg and say yes to add it to the registry.

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I was unable to find the "AB Logfile.txt" after running AboutBuster, so I cannot post it's log file. I tried searching for "*.txt" but still couldn't find it.

I then looked in Windows Explorer for all those "C:\Windows" files but couldn't find any of them, so I didn't delete anything in there. There were very many other .exe and .dll files in there, whose size was 0 KB, and created in the last couple of days. I didn't delete them, but they looked similar to the ones you listed.

So, I ran Hijack This again, and here is the log:

I think AboutBuster creates a log in the same folder that AboutBuster.exe is in.

For those 0kb files, if they were created around this time and look similar, you may delete them.

Go to Start->Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit OK. Let it scan. If it finds any files missing/corrupted, it may ask for the Windows CD.

Run both of these scans:
Run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro...call_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the free online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. If any are not cleanable, copy and paste the infected files here. You may also use Panda ActiveScan at http://www.pandasoft...ucts/activescan. Post the log from the Panda scan here.

Hello again!

I went to both the TrendMicro and Panda sites. The TrendMicro found a virus named JAVA_BYTEVER.A(1). However, to remove it I needed to obtain a "ticket" from TrendMicro, and somehow the site would freeze when I tried to get one. Next, in Panda, when I would click to run the scan, I continually received an Error Message from Internet Explorer and that it would now shut down. Yes, frustrating.

However, I downloaded the update/fix for Windows XP, called WinXP Updater, and after that, I ran AVG and Spybot, and was able to remove the virus (I believe). Both of them now show "no virus found".
I also ran TrendMicro again just to see if anything showed up, and it also reported that my computer was clean.

There is a message that pops up, about every 5 minutes, from my Sygate Personal Firewall, which says:
"NDIS User mode I/O Driver (ndisuio.sys) has received a packet from the remote machine. Do you want to allow this protocol driver to access the network?"

Up till now, I have clicked on the "no" option, but is this a legitimate request - that is, should I say "yes"?

Also, when I run AVG Anti-Virus, I get the notification that 3 files have changed. They are all in "C:\WINDOWS\system32\" and are:

user32.dll

shell32.dll

ntoskrnl.dll

Is this ok?

Also, when booting into "Safe Mode", a message appears at the bottom stating "press ESC to stop loading a347bus.sys"
Is this a problem?

Lastly, here is the latest "Hijack This Log":

No problem, we'll get rid of that JAVA BYTE problem now (just to be sure :tazz: ):
Click on Start->Settings->Control Panel->Java Plug-in and click on the Cache tab. Then click on the Clear button and hit OK.

For the Sygate question, does it give you the remote machine's IP address? From what I found, it's part of the operating system process. User's online say that it's ok to allow it access online.

Did you run sfc /scannow yet? If not, run it now. This might be one reason AVG is detecting them though. If you want, upload those 3 files detected by AVG to http://virusscan.jotti.org and see what it reports back.

For the a347bus.sys file, can you boot into Safe Mode without any problems? I'm not 100% sure why it's showing there or if that's normal, but if there's no problem, I think you should be good. To make sure (if you want), ask this in the Windows Forum to confirm.

Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
