I'm on someone else's computer because of the problems on mine after installing Xandros 3. Like an idiot I paid for a cd on ebay from to entity called venturelive, that wouldn't have been so bad if the program would've had a manual or other helpful info sent along.
I insert the cd and it boots and configures itself to the point where it declares "the installation cannot continue. The partition couldn't be resized. Before trying to install xandros again, start windows and scan the partition for errors using the error checking tool for windows. error code 8004.
The linux installation quits and I try to boot the xp system and the apology screen comes on with the choices of last known good config, safe mode, normal startup, ect., so I try normal and receive, "disable or uninstall any antivirus, disk defrag or backup utility. Check your hard drive configuration and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK/F to check for hard drive corruption." The computer has to have the power turned off to restart.
At this point I was frustrated and used the method of installing xandros on the same partition as windows to see if I could accomplish getting into windows, but it was not able to, the crash screen is as close as I could get . Now Linux is installed and have changed my mind of using it or keeping it on my computer, since after trying to see how it compares to widows. Funny thing about what was said of linux in the ebay add, that it hardly ever crashes, already I'v had to turn the power off a couple dozen times because of it locking up.
Linux is so new to me that trying to accomplish anything towards uninstalling it is impossible, come to think of it, trying to uninstall windows would be just as hard for me. Recently I had a similar problem after installing norton go back and using the restore feature in xp, until I disabled the go back, but this time there isn't a go back menu to refer to and xp seems totally unaccessable.
Maybe this isn't a big challenge to you, but until I go to college to pick up computer science, this problem won't get fixed without someone who knows what to do, or maybe if I did something crazy like buy a new drive and installed windows os again.

Yeah, linux can be a pain in the *back* when first starting out.

If you have already formatted your windows partition and installed Xandros, I suggest formatting with windows XP, creating an extra partition, then using that partition to learn on. There are plenty of dual booting tutorials on the net, of course being distro specific. As far as Xandros, Ive never used it, so I couldn't tell you anything regarding that.

When I first starting learning linux, I remember everything seemed complicated. It seemed like such a waste of time, and all the concepts seemed off, when compared to windows. But after a while, you begin to understand it, and you sort of get addicted to it.

For a beginners distro I would go with SuSe or FC3. I started out on both, then moved on to slackware .
