Hello everyone,

I am hoping a few GRUB masters read these forums. I have been a happy dual-booter of Ubuntu and Win XP for quite some time, but I am interested in modifying the GRUB boot loader so that it will either change the order of selections or change the default OS that is loaded if no selection is made. I browsed through the GRUB website, but did not have much luck finding the info I was looking for. I have gone into the command prompt option in GRUB, but wasn't sure how to save any changes made during that process.

Cheers and thanks for your help with a Linux newbie,
Tom

Try this:
sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
In this section:
## default num
# Set the default entry to the entry number NUM. Numbering starts from 0, and
# the entry number 0 is the default if the command is not used.
#
# You can specify 'saved' instead of a number. In this case, the default entry
# is the entry saved with the command 'savedefault'.
default  0
Change the "0" to whatever OS you want to boot by default. If you want windows to boot by default and you only have one kernel, this is very likely a "3"
