Gateway says don't install SP2 ?

I sent Gateway an email asking them if I should upgrade my BIOS before installing SP2 on my Gateway laptop, xp pro. They didn't answer the BIOS part but they did say to NOT install SP2 because of all the problems people are having with it. I was really surprised by this.

Can someone else with a Gateway send a similar email and see if they get the same response? My laptop runs fine without SP2 so I guess I won't install it for now.
