Saw this in Data Doctors newsletter, and I'm just tickled with it! You can set the utility to activate your mouse wheel into a volume control with the keyboard or the placement of the mouse. I set it to work when the cursor is in the taskbar, and it works just as promised. You can opt to have it run at start up or not, too.

It's free, lightweight, and handy. Enjoy.
