Since many of you posting here are young men that probably have your
own cars or soon will (and love to work on them) I want to tell you this.

One month after my son graduated from high school, he was working under his car,
changing the oil...He had it driven up ramps on slightly unlevel ground
He did NOT HAVE ANY BLOCKS BEHIND THE WHEELS.

My oldest daughter found him under his car not breathing.
She called me...We had to back the car off of him and we tried to re-vive him.
I blew air into him and she tried the heart massage until the ambulance came.

But he had already died....(They worked on him about 45 mins at the hospital but I
am sure he would have been brain damaged had he lived)

He was a handsome young man...He was real smart in school like you GEEK guys
here) and a star football player.
Everyone liked his cheery disposition....He had 'pretty' auburn hair.

His funeral was on his 18th BIRTHDAY.

So if any of you reading this, ever work under your car,
PLEASE PLEASE securely put blocks behind the wheels so it can't roll back.

I have a digital picture of Scott standing beside his
Red Camero....It would be a Classic car as I think it is a 1980.

That was so nice of you young men to reply.
It is hard, I know, to know what to say.

This has been many years since my son died.
We are all just very very thankful for the years he
was in our lives....He was a Christian so we know
he is in Heaven and we will someday see him again.

We now have grandsons that are 18 and 19.
(Plus 2 step grandsons 14 and 17.)
And they love to work on their trucks.

I am going to email the picture to Antartic-Boy and
he is going to send the URL for it tomorrow.

If my thread about Scott's death, helps prevent an
accident that I am thankful with all my heart.

I'm pretty close to 18 (16, almost 17).

This has been many years since my son died.

Thank you Pi rules...that was a nice thing to say....and the thought of him
greeting loved ones at Heaven's door is a very nice thought.

We are just getting home from our 17 year old grandson's football game.
They lost 19 to 15...They almost had a chance of their first win in several years...
this was the last game of the season...Ben was feeling really really bad.
Any of you that are in sports, know how he felt...He plays VERY HARD!

This picture is from 1984, before digital cameras!
I just took a picture of the picture with my digital camera so if it is not
real clear, that is why...

Hi coltm4carbine...thank you for your note...I want to reply a 'longish' note here
but I don't have time.

I need to leave to babysit my 3 little granddaughters....
This is a seperate tragedy...my daughter's young husband, their much loved
daddy, was killed a year ago this summer when he was riding his bicycle and
a semi was going around him and cut in too quick and knocked him off his bike.

He died instantly from a broken neck...It was such a terrible tragedy and HUGE heartache...
You have never known a daddy that loved his girls more (his daughers and his wife)

So anyway, that is where I am going...there is something I want to write about
Scott...but will write it later.

I'm so sorry to hear about this loss,may your son rest in peace and look down upon you with smiles as you sound like a good person and parent.This tragic accident actually happens quite often and many families are devastated each year by this same type of accident,It must have taken a strong will coupled with a ferous courage to try to do what you did.In this time of need it may become neccessary to reach out to loved ones and friends and 'm sure they'll be there for you.Also,you may want to take time to talk to his pals and this too will help the grieving process.Tho he may be far away now,keep him close to your heart forever after.Bless you.

And yes it does happen TOO OFTEN.

Some guys just put their cars up on jacks or blocks and work under
them.....My plea is PLEASE NEVER DO THIS.

And also...don't think just because it is on ramps that it is safe.

My son had his car on ramps and it rolled back onto him and crushed him.

What you need to ALWAYS DO is put wedges
behind both the back tires so it cannot roll.

So anyway, just think of me as your CARING GRAMMA

P.S. I feel kinda foolish for calling Scott's car a CAMERO...it was a MUSTANG.

Thanks for your thoughtful little note.

It is probably time now for this topic to kinda drift away as
most of you have read it.....

I just hope you and the other young men did learn something from it
though...to ALWAYS put wedges behind the back tires if you have
the car on ramps and are working under it.
