my sister had such problems with her ibook g3 700mhz (white 12 inch dual usb version)
what she needed to do was have the "logic board" replaced by apple. she was under waranty so it didnt cost her anything. but the good thing is, is that you can just send it to apple, (if you are not under warranty you will have to pay something) and they can for sure fix any problem. i dont know any way other than through apple, that you can get your hands on another logic board, but all i can think of is that it would be the problem.

hey. My ibook is barely 4 months old. I do have a warranty though. I took it back to the apple store and they did say that it was the logic board, so they sent it in for repairs. I don't understand why this happened. I don't know if I can survive ten days without it and I hope it never happens again. If it does happen again, they should send me a new computer, right?

yes, if you have paid for tech suppourt, apple will bow to you like a god, and do anything you ask for. apparently this is a common problem with ibooks (i guess not powerbooks). my sister wasnt rough with hers, but maybe the slightest bumping could have coused it.
