Hey guys,

While fairly knowledgable on the software side of computers, my hardware knowledge is terrible.

For about the last 5 months (the computer is about 14 months old) my CPU has just bee really loud. The sound is a loud, whirring noise, like a fan. Is there something i can do to clean out the fan, or oil something?

Once again, sorry if that's really generic. The noise has been bugging my roommate and me fora while, haha.

Oh, the computer is a Dell Dimension 4600.

TIA

Hello ace_porate!

Open up the tower and use a can of compressed air to clean the inside of your PC or use a clean paintbrush to clean the offending fan.
If the noise continues replace the fan.
