I am infected with pop ups and no matter what I do I cant get rid of them! I have downloaded all sorts of ad blockers and pop up stoppers to no avail. I have tried all your suggestions ie adaware, clean up, trojan hunter etc here is my hijackthis log hope you can help thanks!!

Please download AproposFix from here:

Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Then please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.


Once in Safe Mode, please double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop. Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. Follow the prompts.

When the tool is finished, please reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log, along with the entire contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder.

Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe.
When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to start scanning your computer. Be patient as this scan may take a while.
When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed. Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt as a reply to this topic.

Hi Sam,
I ran that program and was unable to get back on line. I had to do a go back in order to fix it. Could the problem I am having also make my printer not to work? Here is the log you requested.

Hey Sam you were right my pop ups did go away up until I did the restore and of course they are back. I will try it again.

Hey Sam when I run the bat fix that is when I am unable to get back on line, I have to do a go back in order to fix it, I tried it twice with the same result.

Download the Pocket Killbox.

Unzip the contents of KillBox.zip to a convenient location and then double-click on KillBox.exe to launch the program.

• Highlight the lines below and press the Ctrl key and the C key at the same time to copy them to the clipboard:

• Click on the Delete on Reboot option and then click on the red circle with a white 'X' in to to delete the files. Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot, click YES. When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES. If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.

Your system will reboot now.

Now perform the fix with ApropoxFix.

If you find that you don't have your connection after running ApropoxFix run WinsockFix XP that you downloaded earlier. It should restore your connection.

If for some reason your connection is still not working after WinsockFix, try uninstalling and then reinstalling your firewall.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

• Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point left over from what we have just cleaned.

• Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
  • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
  • Click once on the Security tab
  • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
  • Click once on the Custom Level button.
    
    • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
    • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
    • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
    • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
    • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
    • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
