Hi Rambro,

I am running DSL with Sat-co.net.

Also, I have tried 3 times now to get rid of the O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background. It continues to show up.

If I check O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mmtask] c:\Program Files\MusicMatch\MusicMatch Jukebox\mmtask.exe, will it affect my Music Match or is it just a start up or task bar thing?

I tried to delete the C:\Program Files|Grisoft and it wouldn't let me. I got the error message of "avgse.dll:access is denied".

I did everything else.

Dear djnfl, :tazz:

Also, I have tried 3 times now to get rid of the O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background. It continues to show up.

Have you tried this: Go to Windows Messenger -> Tools -> Options -> Preferences and uncheck "Run this program when Windows starts".

If I check O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mmtask] c:\Program Files\MusicMatch\MusicMatch Jukebox\mmtask.exe, will it affect my Music Match or is it just a start up or task bar thing?

This shouldn't effect your Music Match application in any way.
*****************************

Dear djnfl, can you tell me how much RAM you have on your computer?
***************************

Dear djnfl, try doing the steps in the following link: http://www.netfaqs.c...nable/index.asp.

Then try removing the AVG software through the Add/Remove program.
************************************

Ok, we have to get that AVG software off your computer (i.e. I have been consistent about the removal of this software).

Before you carry out the steps below, I want you to go to post #6 and reverse what you did in that post. Then I want you to go to your Add/Remove program and try to remove the AVG software.

If this does not work, I want you to boot up in "Safe Mode", I want you to delete everything you can in the C:\Program Files\Grisoft folder. The files you cannot remove, I want you to list here in a reply to this post.
************************

I also want you to fix these lines in HijackThis:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AVG7_CC] C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgcc.exe /STARTUP
O23 - Service: AVG7 Alert Manager Server (Avg7Alrt) - GRISOFT, s.r.o. - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgamsvr.exe
O23 - Service: AVG7 Update Service (Avg7UpdSvc) - GRISOFT, s.r.o. - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgupsvc.exe

Restart your computer in normal mode, and then please post a new HijackThis log.

In addition, let me know in detail how your computer system is running after performing the above steps. :)

Note: After you delete as many files as you can from the C:\Program Files\Grisoft folder, I want you to go back to the Add/Remove program and try to remove the AVG software from your computer.

Ok....first off....I once again checked the MSMSGS in the hijack this log and once again, it reappears. I was able to get rid of the musicmatch thing though.

I have 521 MB of RAM

Now AVG...I deleted everthing in the Grisoft folder except for the one thing it will not let me delete. That is avgse.dll. I went back to the add/remove programs in the control panel and it allowed me to get rid of the words but the one file still remains. I took the AVG files out of the hijack this log as you advised and you will see that they are still there only it says "missing file". I couldn't reverse anything because it would not allow me to get into the program at all.

Dear djnfl, :tazz:

(Note: Please read through these instructions a couple of times before executing the steps in this post.)

You may want to print out these instructions or save them as a text file with "Notepad" to your desktop because we will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet.
******************************

Dear djnfl, have you gone in the "Windows Messenger" application itself and done the following:

Go to Windows Messenger -> Tools -> Options -> Preferences and uncheck "Run this program when Windows starts".
*******************

Go to Start -> Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok. Scroll down and find the below service/services:

AVG7 Alert Manager Server (or Avg7Alrt)
AVG7 Update Service (or Avg7UpdSvc)

When you find each service, double-click on it. The next window that opens should be the properties dialog box for that service. On the "General" tab, in the "Service Status" section click the Stop button, then click the drop-down box to change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok.
**********************

Run HiJackThis. Click on "None of the above, just start the program". Now, click on the "Config" button (bottom right), then click on "Misc Tools", then click on "Delete an NT Service" a window will pop up. Enter the below item into that field (copy and paste):

Avg7Alrt

Click OK.

It should pull up information about the service, when it asks if you want to reboot now click YES.
**********************

Run HiJackThis. Click on "None of the above, just start the program". Now, click on the "Config" button (bottom right), then click on "Misc Tools", then click on "Delete an NT Service" a window will pop up. Enter the below item into that field (copy and paste):

Avg7UpdSvc

Optional Fixes

Dear djnfl, the following lines are optional fixes to stop unnecessary programs from running on startup, which may increase computer system performance. I highly recommend you to fix these items:

msmsgs.exe - Windows Messenger utility. If you don\'t use Windows Messenger, this can be annoying. Available via Start -> Programs. Go to Windows Messenger -> Tools -> Options -> Preferences and uncheck "Run this program when Windows starts". Please fix this line, because this program can be run other than in startup and this will increase the performance of your computer.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background

Close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix Checked" button to finish the repair. Close the HijackThis application.

Restart your computer and then please post a new HijackThis log.

In addition, let me know in detail how your computer system is running after performing the above steps. :)

Note: After performing the above steps try deleting the file "avgse.dll", if it works then try deleting the following folder: C:\Program Files\Grisoft. Let me know in detail how you make out.

Dear djnfl, :tazz:

Ok, let try to find ways to delete the "avgse.dll" file.

Method 1

Try this first in "normal mode" and then in "safe mode".

Rename the "avgse.dll" file to "avgse.old". Restart your computer. Then search for the "avgse.old" file and then try to delete it.

If this works then try deleting the following folder: C:\Program Files\Grisoft. Let me know in detail how you make out.
**************************

Method 2

Try this first in "normal mode" and then in "safe mode".

Try unregistering the "avgse.dll" file.

Go to Start -> Run -> type the following "regsvr32 /u c:\Program Files\Grisoft\avgse.dll" (without the quotes).

See the following link as a reference: http://cuinl.tripod....Tips/ocxtip.htm.

If the operating system allows you to "unregister" this .dll file, then try to delete the "avgse.dll" file.

If this works then try deleting the following folder: C:\Program Files\Grisoft. Let me know in detail how you make out.
*************************************

Method 3

Make sure you reverse any changes you make in this Method.

Rename the Grisoft folder to another name and move the folder from this location: C:\Program Files\Grisoft to this location: C:\.

Restart your computer.

Then try deleting the newly named folder.
*************************************

Let me know in detail if any of these methods work. :)

Method 4

1) Please download the Killbox. Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2) Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

3) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox. Put a check mark next to "End explorer shell while killing file".

4) In the main screen of Pocket KillBox, go to Tools in the top menu bar, and select: Delete Temp Files.

5) Select "Delete on Reboot".

6) Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\Program Files\Grisoft\avgse.dll

7) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard". Now you will see, this is pasted in the "Full Path of File to Delete" field.

8) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button.
Click "Ok" at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
Click "Ok" at the Reboot needed prompt.

9) Restart you computer.

10) See if the "avgse.dll" file was in fact deleted.

11) If this works then try deleting the following folder: C:\Program Files\Grisoft. Let me know in detail how you make out.

There is definitely some improvement but it's still slower than it has been in the past. Is there anything else that you would recommend?

Rambro,

I already had Ewido Security Suite installed due to earlier instructions from you so I couldn't do all the things you asked me to do. I did do a complete scan and rebooted.

This is the latest log from Ewido and hijack this.

Dear djnfl, :tazz:

I already had Ewido Security Suite installed due to earlier instructions from you so I couldn't do all the things you asked me to do.

Dear djnfl, I not buying the above quote, their should at least be an option to update the "Ewido Security Suite" application with the lastest file definitions, even if the application was already installed on your computer.

Also look around in the application and see if their is an option to:

disable background guard
disable scan via context menu
************************

I would like you to generate a "Add/Remove Software list" log using the HijackThis application. Here is how you can do this:

Restart your computer.
  • Open Hijackthis, In the lower right corner click the "Config..." (Configuration) button.
  • Once in the "Configuration" panel, click "Misc Tools" button.
  • Then click the "Open Uninstall Manager..." button.
  • The "Add/Remove Programs Manager" panel should appear.
  • In this panel click the "Save list" button.
  • Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file to its default location.
  • Then copy and paste the notepad text that appears in the generated "unistall_list.txt" file in a reply to this post.

I'm not sure what you meant by "you're not buying my quote". I did everything I could that you asked. When I tried the update, it said there were no updates. I can remove the guard but I didn't think you wanted it removed. And there was no way that I could see to disable the scan. I will admit as I already have that I'm not real knowledgable but I'm willing to learn with detailed instructions. I'm sorry if I've caused you aggravation. If you would prefer, I'll remove the Ewido and reinstall it.

I will do the add/remove software list now.
