help with cd player

Ok I have a problem that I am hoping someone could maybe solve. I have an older not to old bookshelf stereo, it's a sony. But anyway it wont read any cd I put in it. Actually the only cd it will read is a laser cleaning cd I have. I'm confused because I really dont know much about this and last time i used it which was a couple weeks it worked perfectly fine. Well anyways any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
