As a service to my users, I invite them to bring their home computers in for tune-ups. One of them brought me this Dell Inspiron 4150 that is absolutely crawling with adware. I did the normal stuff, but it keeps coming back. I would be happy to format the drive and start over, but she has a lot of files and settings and I don't want to gut the machine and have her lose her homework or anything. Before I reinstall (and possibly upgrade to winxppro), I thought I'd ask here in case this is something I come across again. I poked around in these forums but I couldn't find an exact match for this Hijackthis Logfile, I'd appreciate any tips you could give me.

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

OK done and rebooted. Just going to leave McAfee uninstalled for now. Can't get windows update to install the 15 misisng patches. Network tool worked ok, but it was defaulting back to her home setup, looks like a PPPoE - DSL user. I appreciate the help.
