That second one isn't shown in the registry (no second Volume folder) and is not listed in the Everest Report.

This is a really good one... :)

Trying to decide what would be the best course here. was it SP2 or an update that may have caused the problem...Hmmmm

Service Pack 2
Download This Version for IT professionals and save it to your hard drive. Burn it to a cd and hang on to it for future use as your XP installation CD does not contain it.

Eventually we'll get it to where you can burn it to a cd.... :tazz:

Yes, we can continue tomorrow...that'll give me some time to look into a few things.

Hey, on just for a bit. I downloaded the IT file, saved it on the HDD in Prog Files. But guess what, I cannot burn it to either drive, same prob. So there it will stay. I should be on later tonight. Sometimes I wish I still has Win95................

Ok...

Uninstall SP2 using Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. Reboot and see if your optical drives work as they are supposed to.

Not quite yet.....

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD Burning\Drives...click on Volume, then right click on Drive Type...click Modify. Change the Value Data to 2 and click "Ok".

Open Device Manager and Uninstall both CD drives with right click > Uninstall. Accept each uninstall.

Reboot and see if your cd-rom is set as a burner (Record tab)

Call in the A-10's...

Go ahead and reinstall the SP2...hang on to that download, it'll be handy to have if you reinstall a lot. We've been about everywhere with this thing...I wonder if that drive might have gone South...

How are you about being in the case?
