Was looking into the Emachines Help section and they had a section about writing to CD's. One thing they said was if a cd cannot be written to try another brand of cd. I am using a blankcd by Durabrand. Oddly enough the old CD I made b4 of the files is the same brand, Durabrand, what do you think?

:)

I'm not sure even yet if it is your hardware of a software problem, but we're about to find out.

Download this Nero Burning ROM...it's a whopper at 100MB :tazz:

Install it and try to burn a file to cd.

Put a bland in the drive...does the drive detect it? Then use the Nero to create a data cd.

Rather than trying to burn the entire folder, open the folder and try to burn a few of the files...just to see if we have a viable burner or not.

Yeh, I'm gonna try a different brand of cd, maybe with the SP2 it changed something. I guess I'll get some good stuff, like maybe Memorex or whatever the top of the line is. I'll let you know what happens. These Durabrand CD's I have had for a while, I don't copy a lot of files, only used half the pack since 2003. Yeh, wouldn't that just trip my trigger, it was the cd's all the time...........

Nothing with the new CD-R disks, Memorex. I did write down this info when I got a "program nit responding" trying to copy to CD from My doc R click, Error Signature: szAppName:explorer.exe
szAppVer:6.0.2900.2180
szModVer:0.0.0.0
offset:00000000

Error Reports Contents:
C:\DOCUME~1\Robert~LOCALS~1\temp\WERaf3b.dir00\explorer.exe.mdmp

and this also:
C:\DOCUME~1\ROBERT~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERaf3b.dirool\appcompat.txt

Try something for me...

Put a blank in the drive..

Right click on a document and choose "Copy"

Open cd drive (double click in My Computer)

Right click in the window and choose "Paste"

Did it. Went ok until I R clicked on the DVD drive to Paste, it would not open the DVD drive and I just get the "hour glass spinning" and nothing happens, but the HDD seems to go into overdrive when the hour glass is spinning

BTW...

The error strings were just the report XP wants to send to Microsoft.

explorer.exe.mdmp = memory dump (this is the error message)

appcompat.txt = this is the message that it wants to send
