I don't know how to find out which version of Internet Explorer I have. I go to properties but cannot find it. My internet explorer will not open from the desktop, but I am connected to the internet using Cable DSL through road runner. I am still getting mail from outlook express, so I know that is not the problem.

Here is part of the message I receive.

Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hello Sipey!

Do you get any error message when trying to open IE?
Have you tried reinstalling it?
It could be a spyware infection, have you run any anti-spyware scans?

Go to control panel > add remove programs
Highlight internet explorer click remove does this give you a repair option.
If yes choose to repair. If not cancel and report back

Still no luck with the suggestions.

I am willing to listen to some more.

Just really baffled as to why I can't use it or why I can't download a newer version of internet explorer.

Thanks!!

This messege is for you Sipey. Look the way I' look at all of this, Windows and all its problems,
changeing to an imac or even Linux is that imac's are good but I' can wait until someone at apple
decides to bring there prices down just a bit...Linux is not for me because they don't reconize
most hardwire by default and trying to get things to work is just to hard for the average user
...Windows Vista is probably going to have a lot of problems even worst then XP and if you have
anything other then XP HOME or Prof. you should upgrade to XP Home at least before original
retail boxes are noware to be found...in regards to your problems with IE I'believe I' can speak
for a lot of people (members) here at geekstogo in saying that we have all experiance the same
problems you are having now with IE...Solution!!!!(1)Restore using original cd's.
(2)Restore using windows system restoration.
(3)Try reinstalling IE by going to add and remove
and using add and remove componets in the left side of the window.
Sometimes one must be willing to do a lot of
work going around other available means in moving files and saving them and then start anew.
What I do is keep everything that matters to be in a seperate external harddrive also I have acronis
true image to help me whenever I have to restore windows, and when IE is back to working order
I' try as hard as I' can in avoiding using IE to avoid it getting corrupted again. I've written a lot
and most likely have not helped you at all, but try this install IE 7 BETA, is available you know
and then remove it if you must. I had to remove it cuz it would not render Download.com at all. But
I was able to get IE 6 back in better shape then B4. GLUCK

you say internet explorer will not open from the desktop
does it open when you go via the start menu?
If you right click on internet explorer and go to propertities advanced tab click on restore defaults click ok does this help.

Sorry to butt in, but have you read Admin's nice piece on repairing IE 6.0? It's at:

How-to repair Internet Explorer 6.0

BTW, this thread should be in the Internet and Browsers section.

Ron

P.S.

Check this one:

You receive a "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close (Pdm.dll)" error message
