antivirus2008 infection [RESOLVED]

Hi there lets see what I can do to help. I will need you to download two programmes and run them.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

• Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
• The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
• The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
• Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.


Programme Two

To ensure that I get all the information this log will need to be attached (instructions at the end) if it is to large to attach then upload to Mediafire and post the sharing link.

Download OTScanit to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.

• Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
• Open the OTScanit folder and double-click on OTScanit.exe to start the program.
• Check the box that says Scan All User Accounts
• Check the Radio button for Rootkit check YES
• Check the Radio buttons for Files/Folders Created Within 90 Days and Files/Folders Modified Within 90 Days
• Under Additional Scans check the following:
  • Reg - BotCheck
  • File - Additional Folder Scans
  • File - Purity Scan
• Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
• Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
• When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
• Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.

Please attach the log in your next post.

To attach a file, do the following:

• Click Add Reply
• Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
• Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
• Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
• Click on to insert the attachment into your post

Thank you for your response. It will be a few days before I can run these programs, as I do work during the day and to much to do at night....Maybe a soon as Thursday night I can manage a few minutes to get this problem fixed.

Neat first time I have had logs as HTML, be aware though that it shows your e-mail address so I will delete them when I have finished. You did have a wareout infection which MBAM has removed. So lets reset updates and see what that does. I would also recommend Updating to IE7
Lets try the Automated Windows Update Fix from Castlecops

• Download WUFix.zip and unzip to your desktop.
• Double-Click WUFix.bat to run fix.
• You will see a window open and commands processing. When the window closes the fix will have completed.
• Restart the computer.

This fix will clear the proxy cache, places Windows Update sites in the Trusted Zone, places Windows Update sites in the exception list of IE Popup Blocker, starts all dependent services, registers required DLLS, empties the Windows Update temporary folder (with backup), renames the catroot2 folder, retains update history and Event log, and deletes BITS pending download queue.

Once done, go back to the Windows Update Website (You must use the Microsoft Internet Explorer to do this). Check your history to see if the update is already installed.

Well, That did not work either... I copied IE7 to a disc at work and downloaded it on this computer, because I can't download Windows stuff on this one.
I did the Automated Windows update fix and restarted my computer. Tried to go to Windows update and It either goes to MSN.com or I get the error "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
If I click on the links above in your last reply for the "windows update Website" a box pops up that says" Security Warning: The current web page is trying to open a site in your trusted sites list." Do you want to allow this?

Whilst I do a little more research on this unusual problem lets reset your host files and run a general purpose tool

Download the HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager.

• Unzip HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager to a convenient folder such as C:\HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager
• Run HostsXpert 4.2 - Hosts File Manager from its new home
• Click on "File Handling".
• Click on "Restore MS Hosts File".
• Click OK on the Confirmation box.
• Click on "Make Read Only?"
• Click the X to exit the program.
• Note: If you were using a custom Hosts file you will need to replace any of those entries yourself.

Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it. Save it to your desktop.

OK this may be a solution

Start Control Panel
Select Nework connections
Select Local Area Connection
Select Properties
select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Select Properties
Select "Obtain DNS server address automatically"
Accept all prompts
Then retry

Nope..did not work. But I did notice something....when I clicked on windows update in the tools menu, the tab said it was headed to the update page then it switched and said "continue", then it went right into MSN.com.
and I'm still get the error message Can't display web page..

OK lets reflush your dns cache and if you are on a router could you reboot it

Before doing this write down all the settings, Note that not all system/setups even have these settings, While some connection services will require them.

These instructions are basically for home users.

In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically

Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable one some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

Also lets reset your start pages

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.
