Wannabe1/PeterM....the set of 2 usb ports that are wiggly are of this type & on a ribbon http://www.sunrichte...hk/products.asp

The other 3 appear on a plate...those seem to be what came with the computer.

Would you send me a fresh WinAudit? We made a lot of changes since that last one.

Hello Certifiably Blonde...

I have the audit and have shared it with peterm...

To answer your question from a couple of posts ago...I had already been all over that page you linked us to.

Good Morning Certifiably Blonde...

The audit shows the USB support in the BIOS as being disabled, just as the last one did. I know we checked this early on, but let's do it again.

Enter BIOS Setup and look for any settings having to do with USB...particularly "Legacy USB Support". Make sure any you find are set to "Enabled" or "Yes". Be sure to save the settings when you exit BIOS...usually done by pressing F10 or through the Exit menu depending on the BIOS version.

Once in Windows again, open the Device Manager and see if the marks are gone from the USB controller.

Good Afternoon Wannabe1...Okies...looking at it now...In Bio Setup...on the Main Tab...nothing to do with usb; on Advanced...I see USB LEGACY SUPPORT AND IT IS ENABLED....THE PS/2 Mouse Function Control is set to auto(should that be enabled?)...snooping here I look at PCI Config. and it reads Slot 1/5 IRQ Auto....Slots 2, 3, 4 IRQ are also auto. The PCI /VGA Palette Snoop is Disabled and the USA Function is Enabled..there is nothing I recognize that would relate to usb other than these. Hope this helps....Im confused as to why the audit would say it was disabled. I made no changes and saved and exited again.

The Device Manager Remains the same. Is it possible that when my hubby moved my computer to paint the room he disconnected something inside that causes the usb ports not to work?

There are more then 2 windows in the bios, did you check them all?
yes he could have made a loose connetion have you triedpushing the cables on the extra usb ports back downback down.
The sunrich link you posted is blank.
If you try to push the cables back on make sure you touch some metal 1st to earth yourself.

RE: the sunrich site...it figures...one set of usb ports is on a ribbon; the other on a plate.

As far as pushing cables on...Ill wait for him to be here...can we not just unplug the computer to safeguard against electrocution?

Ok you can turn off the power but leave it plugged in
The reason you touch something metal is to discharge static.

Good Morning Wannabe1 & Peterm!

Balmy rainy day here in Southern Ontario, Canada today ~ March break for the kids...Can there be a better day to hit the Mall? Hope your days are going well so far!

Well here's a bit of an update... When we took off the CPU panels everything inside is intact, plugged properly, little dust (which we removed). Nothing suspect when you look at it.

I wanted to start copying off some files because its still not behaving as it was ~ Amazing how this just happens after years of notta problem ~ I am copying files over via a verbatim 1 gig thumb drive...so the task is tedious and I never realized just how "slow" 633 mHz is...What I find odd is the although the usb mouse that works in every other computer in this house that be 3 others (one being an ancient Toshiba Satellite 4010CD), the mouse doesnt work however the thumb drive works just fine ~ so Im thinking that should tell us something...what? I am not sure...so I thought I'd mention it. (shrugs & sighs)

I'll check back after the Mall.

Umm....and which drivers would they be?

The cordless usb optical is dead & gone ~ May it RIP. I have a Logitech Corded Optical that plugs into usb and I've plugged it in...says its recognizing the hardward and the mouse pointer just sits there and wont move..yet it works in other computers....the only thing that seems to work here is pinmouse (ayuck).
