look in your bios...somewhere in there is a plug and play setting...its either enabled or disabled...what ever it is switch it to the other and try again

Well I have given up on the floppy drive attempt to make the Bios utility program work.

I tried changing the plug and play settings, but those didn't work. I'm almost positive that the floppy drive wont work because the USB isn't working correctly. Not only can't I connect my Ipod, but my USB webcam isn't working either. so something is definetly wrong beyond just the speed.

what do you suggest?

I have gone back over this thread...the model # you give does not exist..if I change the last 2 letters to what sony does make...it turns out to be windows 98 and not XP...I NEED A PICTURE OF WHAT EVEREST HAS TO SAY ABOUT YOUR SYSTEM.... post back with those

everest shows the USB
USB2 Controller NEC uPD720101 USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller (v1.0)
try going to NEC for drivers....
still don't understand why the USB 2.0 isn't shown in the BIOS somewhere

I've been trying to look for NEC drivers, but still haven't found anything. I"ll keep trying, it's the only thing I have right now..

seems for some reason that your laptop cannot handle usb 2.
nowhere can i finda driver for usb 2.0
