60 posts - I believe that is a lot of help. The only suggestion I have is to try the sound card as suggested several posts back. Or contact the board mfg as suggested several posts back. Good luck.

Sorry Clutch, no AOL.
I'm using and logged into MSN# messenger* at times, so email me for an addy to add me if you have it.
I don't know if I can help though, as I have removed remote assistance from this Op Sys., so I can only advise you to search for the sound options, or if that fails, you could try to uninstall the sound device from control panels "add remove software" window, and then attempt to re-install your sound device. Maybe that will sort it.
Another thing you could try is to go to device manager and highlight the sound device, and then "update driver" and see what comes up in the list of drivers that may be there.
Could you please confirm that you have checked to see if you have onboard sound or an addon sound card already installed? and if in fact the device you are plugged into is actually the one you have installed?
Onboard sound will have it's jacks on the mainboard mutli-connector at the back of the PC, with a possible front panel extension.
Addon cards jacks will be in a PCI expansion slot at the rear of the PC or a possible front panel extension.
If you are plugged into the front panel, then trace the cable to the device to find out where it is plugging in and confirm here please.
Why should you have to buy a soundcard when you had sound just prior to the format? You didn't "break it", it just needs to be enabled.
Not only that, but having more than 1 device enabled might cause conflicts you will have trouble dealing with.
