Hey guys I'm new here, and I'm 14 and don't know how to fix problems like these... And forgive me if I'm not posting this where I should be...

So anyway, my computer auto-restarts randomly. At first I thought it was because my hard drives were over heating (I have a 19 GB, which has only windows XP on it, and a TB for my games I play). So I went and bought one of those Antec fans that absorbs the heat coming from the drives. So now, my hard drives went from being 130F to around 95F. But my computer still kept restarting. I usually play my games on the highest graphical detail. I lowered down the resolution and everything to the lowest setting, but it still ends up restarting. So what I did was I turned off the auto restart, so now I get the Blue screen of Death instead of it restarting (YAY!!!! -.-)


Here are the errors I've gotten so far:


8/17- (around 11 AM) Bugcode_USB_Driver

I was watching a video on Youtube when this happened...

I was playing Rainbow Six Vegas 2...

This happened when I clicked on the Combat Arms icon.



8/18 (around 2 PM) Bugcode_USB_Driver
***Stop 0x000000FE (same as the other day)

This happened when Windows XP was starting up.

I've tried Reinstalling my Nvidia graphics drivers and defragmented both my hard drives. Can someone help me out here please?

2.41 GHz, 3.00 GB RAM (However I have 4, 1 GB memory sticks)

Nvidia cards are notorious for not uninstalling correctly.
Boot into Safe Mode and the uninstall the drivers.
Then reboot and let windows reinstall them.
Make sure you have the newest drivers available. Try going through Microsoft's update page and look for the optional updates
I found this HERE dated
7\21\2009. I would think that would be the newest drivers out there for your card.

Ok I was on around 11:15 PM, and I was watching a vid on youtube, and the blue screen of death appeared.

It showed the message:

Bug_USB_driver

Stop:0x000000FE

I've been looking around the internet for this message, and I think its because of backed up registry. Is this correct?

Download WhoCrashed from the link in my signature below
This program checks for any drivers which may have been causing your computer to crash....

Click on the file you just downloaded and run it.
Put a tick in Accept then click on Next
Put a tick in the Don't create a start menu folder then click Next
Put a tick in Create a Desktop Icon then click on Install and make sure there is a tick in Launch Whocrashed before clicking Finish
Click Analyze
It will want to download the Debugger and install it Say Yes

WhoCrashed will create report but you have to scroll down to see it
Copy and paste it into your next reply

Ok it worked, here it is. If this helps at all, I have a USB Headset I keep plugged in. I don't know if that as anything to do with this error.

USB headset is what it looks like caused the crash.
Disconnect it and try it again. See if it crashes now

Ok I connected it to a different USB port. I'll let you know if it I get the death screen again. Thanks for all the help =)

Lol I'm starting to think I need a new hard drive... I've noticed that some of the causes of these crashes are from .dll, .exe, and .sys type files.

Download and install Free Everest Home Edition
Open it.
1: In left pane expand Computer folder.
2: Click once on Summary
3: In upper menu, go Report
4: And then to Quick Report-Summary
5: Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.


DO NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING UNDER THE LINE THAT SAYS "DEBUG- PCI".



Click HD diagnostic in my signature below. Choose the manufacturer of your hd. Download the tool. Running this will tell us if there is a problem with HD itself. If not then we will pursue other hardware or software possibilities




Let's check your memory and make sure there is no issue with it. Download memtest86 from the link in my signature below.


Get the file that is named Download - The one you want is "Download - Pre-compiled Bootable ISO (.zip). When it downloads, it will be labeled memtest86+2.11.iso.zip
Unzip the file once you download it. You should have a .iso file in the unzipped directory. It will look like a zip file in some cases but the file name will now be memtest86+2.11.iso

if you don't have a burning program that will burn .ISO files get burncdcc in my signature below.

NOTE...do not put a blank cd in until burncdcc opens the tray for you
1. Start BurnCDCC
2. Browse to the ISO file you want to burn on cd/dvd ....in this case its memtest86.iso
3. Select the ISO file
4. click on Start

Make sure the bios is set for the cd drive as the first boot device
Put the cd in the cd drive and then boot your computer.

Running the Diagnostic Program:

The basic diagnostic screen has five main sections of relevant information. Three at the top which are labeled, PASS %, TEST %, and TEST #. This will basically show you the total progress of the current test, the overall progress of the diagnostic test, and the test number is currently performing.

On the middle left hand side of the of the program interface there is a “Wall Time” section that will keep track of how long the diagnostic test has been running for. This just gives you an idea if you are not attending the testing process.

The main section to look for is the lower half of the screen which is usually blank. As long as the memory testing is going ok with no errors this section of the screen should remain blank. If the diagnostic program finds any serious faults in the memory you will see it display a memory dump of address’s in this section. This is similar to what is displayed on your screen when you encounter a blue screen of death.

You now have most everything you need to know about setting up and testing your memory with diagnostic programs. This guide should help you get to the source of any intermittent problems related to your memory.

Run memtest for at least 2 hours
If it starts showing any errors during that time then you will have to replace the memory
If there are no errors after 2 hours press Esc and that will end the tests
We will then try other options

Ok I was following the steps to install the HD diagnostic, but, I don't think Western Digital supports my hard drive anymore. I looked around on their site for it, and I didn't have any luck. My hard drive is a WD Expert 205BA (which has only Windows XP on it) And I don't think its my Hitachi hard drive, because I bought it almost 2 months ago and I haven't had any problems with it.

EDIT: I found this program in control panel, its called HD Tune 2.5. Would I be able to use this instead of HD diagnostic?

I'm running Memtest now and I'll give it about 2 hours.
